Republicans Don't Read

Posted by on Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 10:27 AM

This video of the Republican National Committee chair debates would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. When the moderator asks the candidates to name their favorite book, one candidate mistakes "favorite book" for "favorite bar" and then cites "George W. Bush's new one" when she's corrected, another candidate names the Reagan Diaries, and Michael Steele picks War and Peace and then (mis)quotes Dickens:

Of course Republicans read. Besides reading the memoirs of past Republican presidents and books with titles like "Liberals are Terrorists" etc. they also read the parts of the bible and the parts of the constitution that they really like. Of course, I'd bet over half of republican voters don't even any of that stuff...maybe they read the lips of Fox Barbie-anchors ...

"He's not the same as you and me.
He doesn't dig poetry. He's so unhip that
When you say Dylan, he thinks you're talking about Dylan Thomas,
Whoever he was.
The man ain't got no culture,"

So, what magazines do these politicians read? All of them?
My favorite book has to be the Chronicles of Amber, by Roger Zelazny. (Okay, technically that's ten books.)
