This guy. A couple weeks ago on Slog, I said "I admit it; all I want for Christmas is one of those Cr-48 Chrome OS prototype laptops." This morning, UPS delivered one to me here at The Stranger. (Thanks, Google!) I haven't had as much time as I would've liked to look at the device today, but my first impression is about the same as everyone else's. Aesthetically, this is a gorgeous device. It's all black matte, with no branding at all. I also like that the keys have lowercase letters on them instead of all caps. And I really like that they replaced the Caps Lock button with a search button. Additionally, because the operating system is so light, it feels more like a mobile device than a laptop usually does; if it works out, it may supplant my desire for an iPad entirely.

Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to play with the Cr-48 today (I couldn't put a paper out and learn how to use a new laptop in the same day). This post was written on it, and it seems like a pretty decent experience so far (although it didn't cooperate with my ancient camera's USB cord, so I'm adding the photo on my work desktop.) I'm looking forward to putting this thing through its paces over the next few weeks. I'll keep you posted as I go.
