Mapplethorpe Foundation Joins In: The Last Victim of the Culture Wars Stands Up for the Current Victim

Posted by on Thu, Dec 16, 2010 at 2:27 PM

From @kristoncapps,

Breaking: Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation suspending funding for all @smithsonian exhibitions unless Wojnarowicz video is reinstated.

Meanwhile, AA Bronson's request to have his own art removed from the Hide/Seek show is denied by the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. Felix is now being held hostage. "These, ladies and gentlemen, are America's cultural stewards in the nation's capital."

The Smithsonian really is proving quite invertebrate. Why the hell are they letting a vocal fundie minority dictate what we display as important to our culture!?! The NPG knows 'Fire In My Belly' isn't attacking Christians. Asshattery all around.

Chronologically, wasn't Andres Serrano a victim of this same issue between Mapplethrope and the current victim?
