Another Comic Strip Bites the Dust

Posted by on Fri, Dec 10, 2010 at 11:30 AM

It's been a bad year for women on the funny pages. First Little Orphan Annie goes down in flames, (booo!) then Cathy kicks it (hooray!) and now Brenda Starr is being retired. I liked Brenda Starr a lot more than, say, Apartment 3G; for one thing it occasionally had some action. For another thing, Brenda's love interest, Basil St. John, was a weird guy with an eyepatch who would always pop up in bizarre situations when you least expected him. And third, I'm a sucker for that 1940s "girl reporter" schtick (although Lois Lane will always be first in my heart; sorry Brenda).

Now all we have to remember Brenda Starr by is a very bad movie starring Brooke Shields from 1989:

Bummer. I'm going to miss these story strips, where the guy could actually draw a little, unlike the clumsy stick-figure garbage that fills my paper every morning, when they're all gone.

But when you dis Apartment 3-G, you're asking for a FNARFDOWN, dag nab it. I'll sic Margo on you.

Seņor Fnarf, the one item missing from my personal library is Reglamento y Ceremonial de la Corte, the rules of correct behavior during Maximiliano and Carolota's reign.

So when you go to Mexico City pick me up a copy and we'll be even.
