The Seattle Police officer who punched a teenage jaywalker in the face during an escalating confrontation with the girl and several friends has been exonerated today of use-of-force allegations by the Seattle Police Department's Office of Professional Accountability.

Via the Seattle Times:

The department's Office of Professional Accountability (OPA) investigated the force used by Officer Ian Walsh and recommended to Chief John Diaz that he be exonerated of any allegation of unnecessary force. The OPA determined Walsh "performed his duties within the scope of department policies and procedures," according to a news release.

Diaz concurred with that finding.

The18-year-old woman involved in the videotaped jaywalking stop that resulted in Walsh punching her pleaded guilty in October to assaulting the officer.

This altercation was one of many the ACLU—and over 30 other organizations—cited in its recent appeal to the Department of Justice for a civil rights probe into police officer conduct.
