Meet the Possible New Head of the Energy and Commerce Committee

Posted by on Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 11:08 PM

It might be John Shimkus (R-IL). Keep in mind that the Energy and Commerce Committee plays a key role in determining our government's climate policy.

Rep. Shimkus believes that climate change isn't a problem because God said he wouldn't destroy the Earth. Shumkus believes the Bible "is the infallible word of God" and so we shouldn't waste our time worrying about stuff that's not in there.

Attention idiot Congressman: Nobody said climate change will "destroy the Earth." If I can anthropomorphize for a minute, the Earth doesn't give a shit about climate change. It's perfectly happy to be the way it is now, or to be completely uninhabitable by humans or any other creatures. The question is whether humans would be happy if the Earth were uninhabitable by humans, and most of us would not.

'night!

Fuck, how long must the human race sit around listening to, and making FUCKING LAWS BASED UPON fairy tales before we finally throw this stupid worship-of-the-rising-sun-and-scary-totem shit out and behave logically and reasonably?

Forever? Ok, yeah, that's what I thought...

Bible says God won't destroy the earth. It doesn't say shit about man not destroying it.

He is the worst possible person for the job, like a priest in a daycare or Luby covering labor issues.

It rings so true what a beloved commenter whose name escapes me wrote last night: these people's unshakeable belief that government is stupid and harmful means they will stop at nothing until it is so.

It is so easy to debate with religious policy makers like this but we should not have to. I'll bite.

Assuming that the Bible is God's word and the word is perfect and unchanging and infallable it still leaves open that a human can misinterpret the word. You should also consider according to the Bible the devil will make humans read the wrong message from the Bible. Intelligent free thinkers know its all bullshit anyway.

So the bible says the earth wont be destroyed until god wants it to. It points out this eventually will happen.

You could argue that climate change is God's way of destroying the world. That would invalidate his point that climate change cannot and will not destroy the world.

You can also argue that if climate change risks the world's safety. Through the intervention of humans with the will of god the climate change risk is averted leaving the world to be destroyed later as God intends.

Either way this guy wants to make public policy based on his shitty and sophomoric attempt at theology. He should step down but he won't so its our job to elect him out.

One of my good friends is that guy's nephew. Always weird to see his name mentioned.

And he's the reason why some parents should have an abortion.

He's the initial absurd lowball offer to get us all steamed and distracted so that they can ditch him in the ensuing uproar and slip in some deeply unsavory industry-bought-and-paid-for crook who only looks acceptable by comparison.

Look at what happened with Miers and Alito on the Court. Miers was so transparently Bush's hack lapdog that everyone lost their shit at her nomination, and by throwing her under the bus they slipped in that slimeball Alito instead.

This is a lot lower profile than the Court. Just imagine what kind of contemptible corrupt old fuckhead they're gonna be able to get in there if anyone notices this bonehead and makes enough of a fuss to torpedo him.

Thank you, Anthony! Now I can rest assured that I will never again have to hear a leftist say "save the planet", which currently generates just under 82,000,000 hits on Google.

Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet. Save the planet.
