Playdate of the Dead

Posted by on Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 5:12 AM

Nice parents those kids have—and I think we know who'll be beating off to zombie manga porn in about ten years. I got it from Atrios who got it from The Daily Wh.At who got it from the Great White Snark who got it from Reddit who found it on YouTube. (Sometimes I enjoy tracing the hat tips all the way back to the source.) And all of this "I got it from" reminds me of this...

I heart Japanese TV. Those kids are brave. I love how he berates the useless reporter for "just fucking standing there while we do all the fucking work!"

I'd say the manga porn is a best-case scenario. That older boy looked seriously freaked out...god, my kids still hate being reminded of the Tailypo story, this is SO much worse!

hmm...on the zombie video.

However, the Tom Lehrer bit was brilliant. And led to at least .4 of wasted time while I searched for other videos of him on YouTube.

The Tom Lehrer bit was brilliant...but then that particular song is in my iPod's 25 Most Played list. I know that says something about me, but I don't know what.

I thought one of the benefits of having kids is you have someone to play mindgames on

So polite of the zombie to let the kids know in a letter that he's on his way over. "Coming soon. Zombie." And polite enough to take off his shoes before he enters the home? The undead in Japan are so respectful.

OTOH, the kids weren't nearly as polite -- I counted at least three shots towards the nuts while watching this. I think Dan's nailed it on those kids' future kinks.

Love the second video -- I can even tell what he's singing most of the time, he's that clear. Don't know what kind of beat it has -- is there anything else playing besides the piano?

This was awesome. Of course you'd never see something like this on American television because our children are fragile little angels who should never be placed in any sort of frightening situation.

Lucky Pierre!

:) My other favorite Tom Lehrer songs are "When you are old and grey" and "I hold your hand in mine"

It's never too early to start preparing kids to face the zombie apocalypse.

I thought the Godzilla on a string swung from the door jamb was a nice touch.

The little boy's bravery, which he manages to retrieve even after the weak moment when he breaks down in fear and confronts the reporter for suggesting all is lost, moved me to tears. Seriously. I choked up and wept.

The laugh track was distractingly loud in the Zombie clip (I don't watch sitcoms anymore for that very reason), but it was still pretty funny. Tom was great.

I don't see the kids being permanently altered--developing a kink--from the 'trauma' of battling a 'zombie'. In my experience, all kids love the scary monster game--RAORWWW--especially when they realize they can defeat the supposedly hideous creature. It winds them up so isn't good close to bed-time, but my nieces and nephews all loved it when little and would eagerly try to bring out my inner monster to play it again and again.

Of course Dan would be familiar with Tom Lehrer. However, I prefer the Masochism Tango.

Apparently, in some areas of Japan, it is a tradition to scare the crap out of your kids... a yearly event known as Namahage.

Poisoning pigeons in the park was at least the funniest thing I've encountered today.
