Ever wonder what happened to Mimi Gates, who was director of SAM for approximately 750 years and who stepped down not long ago?

Well, she has a new kingdom: The Gardner Center for Asian Art and Ideas (her name is Mimi Gardner Gates), which is not so much a place as a series of events that happen pretty much constantly at the Seattle Asian Art Museum.

This Saturday morning it's "Mystic Shrines as the Gateway to Memory and Anticipation," a lecture on sacred sites in Iran and South India by UW professor Firoozeh Papan-Matin.

The lecture ($10) starts at 9:30, but you can go early for pay-by-donation yoga at the museum at 8:30.

Other upcoming events at the Guh-Kai (GCAAI):

October 9: Circling the Center: Pilgrimage in the Tibetan Cultural World
October 23: The Sacred Site of the Self in Hinduism: Temple, Society, and the Yoga Body
October 30 The Buddhist Caves of Dunhuang: Treasure Trove in the Chinese Gobi Desert
November 6: Lives of Angkor Wat
November 13: Australian Aboriginal Art as a Guide to Sacred Places
January 15: Buddhist Monasteries and Monastic Life of Korea
January 22: Architecture of Asia Outside of Asia

The Gates never dies!
