Someone Elect This Man, Or There's Going To Be Trouble

Posted by on Thu, Sep 9, 2010 at 1:17 PM

The hard-fought nomination for the Stark County, Ohio GOP's nomination for treasurer is over now (Alex Zumbar won!), but Phil Davison wasn't going down without a fight. Or without an insane tirade, at least.

Poor fellow. My dad used to meet people like this when he'd check into the psych ward for a tuneup now and then. He was a good calmer-downer.

Just goes to show that making a speech is all in the delivery.

I'd vote for him to get the Best Actor, hands down.

I think he just left his caps lock on when he typed his speech.

Glad he's using his Masters degree in Communications. He has impacted me with the force of his delivery. He should join one of those motivational speaking tours, and kick ass on the likes of Terry Bradshaw and Zig Ziglar.

Wonder why he didn't win the nomination?

Looks like he's auditioning for a Scorsese movie.

Marty should hire him pronto.

as much as snooki is a lindsay lohan wannabe...

this guy is clearly a Mussolini affected Dwight Shrute wannabe....

"BLOOD ALONE MOVES THE WHEELS OF HISTORY!!!"

though to be fair you just know his pug/chow mix probably was mildly entertained for about 4 and a half seconds while he "practiced" it the night beforehand.

He reminds me of a cross between Joe (the wheelchair bound cop) from Family Guy and a rabid wolf.

My favorite part is where he had to check the paper for his name.

Makes me wonder about the origin of the expression "Stark raving mad".

It really kills your delivery when you have to check your notes every four seconds, especially when your "angry face" goes a little slack as you do so.

"DRASTIC TIMES REQUIRE WHAT?!" "...drastic measures..." comes the murmuring response. "YES! WHO SAID THAT?! YES, DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DRASTIC MEASURES!!" And then you hear people chuckling in the crowd. Even they feel bad for him.

Wow. The words of the speech weren't bad, it was entirely his tone of voice and body language that made him seem crazy. "I will not apologize for my tone tonight"? Had his tone been proper-politician, he would have been fine and may well have won the nomination. I can hear them thinking - "What we're hearing now is what everyone will hear over the next 8 weeks? Better pick the other guy." His angry tone, wild eyes and constant moving back and forth from the podium made him seem deranged. Anyway, if this is viral enough to hit Slog, his career is almost certainly over. Pretty soon everyone in Stark County will have seen this video, and he'll never live down his new reputation.
