All the action is at Bumbershoot today. This year, Bumbershoot has renamed its literary arts programming into the "Words and Ideas" program. We'll see how that goes.

Focusing on the words, then: At noon, it's time for Pecha Kucha, in which a few different presenters mix words and slides (specifically, 20 images showing for 20 seconds each) and see what happens. The one to watch at this show is Nico Vassilakis, who has always done really interesting stuff with letters as visual elements.

Pat Thomas will be playing recordings from the Black Power era, including poetry, at 3:45.

And then it's a one-two punch of books. Rick Moody reads from his newest, The Four Fingers of Death, a book vaguely based on a science fiction movie from the 50s. It's a sci-fi novel about a murderous severed hand, and it's reportedly awesome.

And Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner will be appearing with Zachary Lipez and Stacy Wakefield to read and show photos from their new book Please Take Me Off the Guest List. It's a gorgeous book, but there's more to it than that. Wakefield is a designer; she juxtaposed Zinner's photos with Lipez's stories of life in the rock and roll gutter in a really unique way. There is literally no way you could make this book into a satisfying e-book. It's a beautiful artifact.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

Even after playing with Wired's iPad app you'd say there's no way to make it into a satisfying e-book?

Maybe not with an e-ink based reader... too bad the iPad has some major flaws as well. Careful what you say about e-books while the form factor is still in its infancy.
