Brewer: I Misspoke. Maybe. Who Knows?

Posted by on Sat, Sep 4, 2010 at 9:01 AM

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer finally kind of sort of admitted that she was wrong about beheadings in the Arizona desert.

Via TPM:

"That was an error, if I said that," Brewer told the Associated Press yesterday. "I misspoke, but you know, let me be clear, I am concerned about the border region because it continues to be reported in Mexico that there's a lot of violence going on and we don't want that going into Arizona."

You gotta love that little "if I said it" line. Facts are opinions these days, and all it takes is a couple little throw-aways like that to convince her supporters that she never said any such thing. It's a "mainstream media" conspiracy, blah blah blah.

What? There's video of her saying it, twice? Probably faked.

That wasn't even the end of her dissembling. She also claimed that she when discussing the headless bodies, she "never said 'Arizona,' and it's unfortunate that it was construed as 'Arizona.'"

It's true. She said "our law enforcement agencies" have found headless bodies. Clearly, by "our" agencies, she meant Mexico's.

The saddest part of this whole story, of course, is that she's going to win.

This wingnut teabagger is irresponsibly stoking panic among her activist allies over crimes that occurred on the other side of the border. She's picking out atrocities committed elsewhere and blaming them on immigrants here just to put more pressure on them, and frighten her paranoid constituency.

It would be like, say you wanted to turn up the heat on the Seattle Police Department, right? And so you went around finding questionable killings that other police departments did, out and around, kind of in the regional vicinity, in Tacoma or Spokane or whatever (it doesn't matter), and repeatedly brought them up in the same breath as your broadsides against the SPD.

Just to stoke fears, and whip up emotions. You don't really want people to think; you want them waving pitchforks and shouting. Get people angry and then see if you can use that anger to further your agenda. It works, right?

Because if your cause is righteous, you never have to say you're sorry, not really. And facts are opinions anyway, these days.

If Brewer is going to win the Arizona Governor election, maybe this speechless/refusal to recant moment plus Brewer's refusal to engage in more gubernatorial debates matter only to the press. The last poll used for the NYT/538 prediction was in late July 2010 to support the statement that Brewer will win. The implication seems to be that, in lieu of any post-debate polls, nothing Brewer says or does will jeopardize her point spread.

This is classic liberal hypocrisy.

How many times has Joe Biden gaffed and gotten a pass? And like I said before, we all know what a stammering blockhead Barack Hussein Obama is without his teleprompter. I mean, he uses that thing in meetings for crying out loud.

Yet here is one of those "scary conservatives" - who just happens to be doing the right thing on illegal immigration - who makes a minor little misstep, and the leftist media wants her head on a pike.

The same thing has happened to Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and Glenn Beck so many times I've lost count.

That's why patriots who thirst for truth are watching Fox News in record numbers, and it's why the Democrat Party will be thrashed by the hard traditionalists in November.

The American people have simply had enough of the Democrats and their lies!!!

@8: If we get her head on a pike, will her body end up in the Arizona desert?

Have you looked at house prices in Arizona?

You can get a great 3 bedroom for like $70,000 -- and prices are still falling...and it's sunny 12 months a year!

Maybe that's your (conservative's/douche Basil) problem. Your guys keep making the same missteps (almost on a daily basis), hoping nobody will call you out on your bullshit. Basically, in continuing to make "missteps," conservatives are their own worst enemies.

Add in all the usual Seattle hypocrisy of age and looks related comments about the person, and you have the usual inanity.

@13:

Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that you would still have to LIVE IN ARIZONA.

(And, you do realize of course, there's a very GOOD reason you can buy a 3 BR down there for $70K - because the poor schmuck who bought in the first place is willing to let it go for that just to get the HELL out of there.)
