Senator Dino Rossi

Posted by on Thu, Sep 2, 2010 at 7:55 AM

With its survey of Washington voters released this morning, Rasmussen Reports says that our senate race now "moves from Leans Democratic to Toss-Up":

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state shows Republican challenger Dino Rossi attracting 48% of the vote while Democratic Senator Patty Murray earns support from 46%. Three percent (3%) prefer a different candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

Rossi's two-point lead today follows a poll two weeks ago, when Rasmussen found Murray with a four point lead. It's impossible to read too much into these numbers given the poll's 4 percent margin of error, except to say that Murray lacks anything resembling the lead that ensures reelection. And Murray could be losing support. Lots of policy strategists are concerned that Democrats—specifically progressive Dems who live in cities—are so resigned to a red wave this fall that they just won't vote. And that Dems are disillusioned after a progressive Congress didn't fulfill promises, like vows to reform health care, pass finance reform, end the combat in Iraq... wait a second. They did do all that stuff. My thinking: Dems aren't scared enough of a red wave. So Senator Dino Rossi. Yikes.

Rasmussen is notorious for having far more support for Republicans in its polls than other firms. It could be accurate, but wait until it's corroborated by a second pollster.

Also: it's a *telephone* poll. Meaning folks who have land-lines. Oldsters.

How about we post a few more comment threads about how the democrats have stabbed us in the back and that the democrats are just the same as the republicans! Huzzah for republican control of the house and senate!

Coming from someone with no dog in the fight, I don't think Rossi stands a chance.

Just imagine six years of that smiling low life snake running government into the ditch. Ugh!

"Dems who live in cities--are so resigned to a red wave this fall that they just won't vote."

This is why the R's are able to kick ass so hard even when it's obvious they fucked things up. Discipline, I wish the Dems had some. Not to mention, I just don't get how people don't want to pull the lever because they didn't get their gay marriages, DADT repeal, end to wars, etc. tied up with a neat bow.

The result will be Republicans running your town, district, and state. Is that a better outcome than holding your nose and keeping them out of power?

Like dems have done anything good when they were afraid of losing to republicans? How do you think that party rushed so quickly to the center?

Poll, schmoll - if the young voters vote, Murray will be re-elected. If not, then Rossi wins. And Will, you do know that Rossi supports the tunnel, right?

Holden:
Are you seriously saying the Democrats did financial reform? Seriously?

What I see is a president who put together a commission to "save" Social Security, a commission whose handpicked leader has a lifelong track record of wanted to do away with Social Security completely and give the money to Wall Street. Where's frickin Patty Murray on that? Where are you Nixon to China boy?

Aw shoot. Now I'm losing it.

And this is the left of center anti-establishment paper?

Sheesh...

This depresses me:

'Also: it's a *telephone* poll. Meaning folks who have land-lines. Oldsters.'
