Mudede's Cat

Posted by on Thu, Sep 2, 2010 at 10:47 AM

Via @Mudede:

It's now clear to me that my daughter no longer likes my philosophical answers (in the universe) to her basic questions (where's the cat?).

It could be much worse. Imagine being Schrödinger's daughter. The cat is both dead and alive.

Sure, the cat may be either alive or dead, but only so long as it stays inside the box. Once it's outside the box, there's really no question anymore as to its condition.

a. Nothing could be worse than being one of Mudede's children.
b. I just watched Repo Men, in which Jude Law's character begins the movie talking about Schrödinger's cat, this week. How apropros.

I would think being Schrödinger's daughter would be much better. At least with backable science and thought the kid could think about it compared to Mudede's inane and borderline crazy ramblings.

It's not so much a philosophical answer as it is a juvenile one, really. Although, admittedly, sometimes children can be quite philosophical themselves in a childlike way -- this is different than adults being philosophical in a childlike way.

But it's pure Mudede to not only not know the difference but to broadcast it far and wide.

Imagine not being Schroedinger's daughter.

(See what I did there?)

I shudder to think what birthdays are like.

Also @5 - "appropriate" would have worked as well. I know that apropos is technically correct, but it always seems like an unnecessary usage/a little on the pretentious side to me. Maybe it's just because the word seems to be the new flavor.

would Schrödinger's zombie be in a simultaneous state of being both dead and undead?

He should call his blog "Mudede's Catbox." You never know what you will find when you look in the catbox, but chances are you are going to find a pile of shit in there.

It's just a thought experiment. The cat knows that it exists until it stops living. Cats may be terrible at astronomy, but they are aware of their own existence.

All children eventually realize that their parents are morons. It just happens sooner if you are fond of spitting out pseudointellectual horseshit.

I wish my parents had been more like Mudede. Most American kids grow up in an intellectual wasteland. At least they're being taught to think about the universe.

@18 I completely agree about american kids, but I don't think that Mudede teaches so much as he lists off important-sounding words and then congratulates himself for confusing his audience.

Also, the middle class.

Also, universe marxist clamshell.

@10 "How apropos" is a common expression. (Much more so in my experience than "how appropriate").

I also kind of find it funny that a Mudede-adjacent post results in anyone other than Mudede being called pretentious. Or was your comment a sly piece of meta-humor? If so, well played sir or madam.

@18 - Agreed. I would have liked to have had Mudede as my father! Although that seems like a creepy thing to state, now that it's all typed out.
