Reading Tonight: Beer and Comics

Ravenna Third Place is hosting Science on Tap, a combination science lecture/occasion for beer drinking. This month's lecture is titled "Climate Change and the Cost of Beer: Why Groundwater Will Dictate Your Bar Tab." Matt Bachmann of the US Geological Survey will talk for a while and answer your drunken questions about geology.

And John Porcellino and Noah Van Sciver will be reading at the Hugo House. Porcellino is the author of King-Cat Comics. You either get his comics or you don't—Porcellino's work is observational, undramatic, and cleanly (some would say childishly) drawn. He'll be showing slides of his work, and he'll be joined by interesting indie comics cartoonist Noah Van Sciver, whose brother, Ethan, draws ridiculously proportioned superheroes who all look like German sex offenders.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.

Just drink Kokanee.

Canada has most of the world's fresh water supply, and will have most of it for the rest of this century.
