Another Salvo in the War Between Chamber-of-Commerce Capitol Hill and "Your Real Capitol Hill"

Posted by on Mon, Aug 16, 2010 at 12:47 PM

A defacement at the Brix condos, sent to us by a couple of hot tippers:

What to call this competition of interests? The condos vs. the crust?

The gentry vs. the goons?

The loot vs. the louche?

Whatever it is, I think the Regressors (those self-infantalizing young persons who like ice cream and hot dogs) bear some of the blame.

Our country is fighting a war on two fronts, our state government has a massive deficit, schools are closing, crime is on the rise for the first time in 20 years, and the next ten years are going to be a slow-motion financial train wreck.

I think I basically think that anyone who actually believes that the presence of "squares" on Capitol Hill is a problem that needs to be addressed in some way is a stupid pointless cunt.

One of the things that's interesting about the documentary The Times of Harvey Milk is the bit about how San Francisco was basically a regular working city until the 1960s, and that a lot of the families and blue-collar people who lived there felt like their city was invaded by a tidal wave of hipster douchebags in the '60s. Having lived on Capitol Hill since 1979, that's basically my feeling about the "Save Capitol Hill for artists, junkies, and homeless people!" contingent.

I gotta admit, both sides end up looking kinda douchey. But I predict the side with money will win. They always do.
