It's still fucking cold and gray outside right now. I just started the self clean feature on the oven to warm up my house a little bit.

That goat shouldn't be there anyway. It's fucking depressing when you go by there in Leavenworth.

In other news, beautiful, sunny and a slight breeze in IC. Although Seattle's weather was beyond perfect when I was there July 14-24. And Cap Hill since I left two years ago? What the hell? I loved Pike/Pine this visit - so bustling, like a real city. Crap. Maybe I have to move back next year.

Funny that they kept talking about "Seattle paying for a tunnel" with us Nonurbs being soaked only for "cost overruns" when in fact, everyone the state was(is?) going to be screwed over for $2.8 billion right from the get go!

And now Dumboire has the nerve to use this screw job as a reason for doing the tunnel?

"Oh, look, see...if you don't do this tunnel, you won't be tax raped for $3 billion. Now don't you want a tunnel? See how good it is?"

RE: new drilling legislation...

Does the oil lobby really have so fucking leverage that they can get congress to allow more drilling in the gulf even while there is still oil floating around there?

Or is the republican party doing this independent of the lobbies, just to stubbornly fight against everything Obama fights for?

It's Lederhosen, leather pants, not Liederhosen. Liederhosen would be singing pants, which would at least as interesting as a stolen goat.

Severe punishment is warranted, but life-in-prison for a pedophile sting operation seems on the cruel and unusual side to me. Especially when murder convictions are often less extreme (the guy that killed Tuba man got hardly anything), and other horrible child abuse cases (like Rebecca Long) get 20 years or less.

Phoebe, you beat me to it. Like you, I'm all for severe punishment for people like this but the possibility of life in prison is way too extreme.

On a related note, I don't have any problem with stings to smoke out pedophiles like this. If they hadn't caught him now, he undoubtedly would have gone on to have sex with a child. (Sting operations for prostitution with adults is a different matter. I think those are outrageous because sex between consenting adults -- or, more specifically, solicitation of sex for money by consenting adults -- shouldn't be illegal.)

On another related note, I wonder why pedophiles almost always seem to be men?

No worries, Logan - they're both about equally as worthless. You should have learned Spanish. The way things are going, in another 20 or 30 years, it'll be the only thing most of the population of this country knows how to speak.

@15- ever heard of Mary-Kay Letourneau? or any number of the hundred or so female teachers caught with students in the last few years? they're out there, they just (and this is my take on it) are caught/suspected less often

21, is there anyone who hasn't heard of Letourneau? But just because there are some women who are over 6 feet tall doesn't mean that women have the same average height as men. Likewise, just because Letourneau and some other women have sex with kids doesn't mean that women are pedophiles to the extent that men are. I mean, it's possible they are, but it sure doesn't seem like it. Especially when it comes to very young kids, under 10. That seems to be almost completely a guy thing.

I've never heard of a woman arrested for possession of child porn. That doesn't, of course, mean they don't exist. But I would bet the vast majority of people viewing child porn are men.
