...this one may be my favorite.

Four more months of campaign ads yet to come!

I love her big open mouth smile, even when she's shooting... or is she just a mouth breather?

Holy. Freaking. Shit. How is this where we live?

I find it hilarious that they barely let her speak. Most likely because she sounds like a small child, but seems pretty fucked anyway.

She really needed Samuel L. Jackson for that voiceover.

I swear, the left and its prejudices and shibboleths. When you watch this video of this woman doing something 100% legal and not hurting a single person, and yet you still get all angry and irate and ARGH!, know this: that's exactly how right-wing nuts feel when they see homosexuals doing something legal and not hurting anyone, like getting married.

It's the exact same prejudice. She's not hurting a single person. She's doing something she enjoys and is legal. She's not committing any crimes. Is it kind of dangerous? Sure. But if that's a reason to argue against it, then you have to accept arguments against homosexuality based on the danger of AIDS.

Wait, that's a real ad and not satire? If an ad like that improves your chances of getting elected, I need to follow-up on my vow from the '04 election and move out of this country.

@8: it's not a real ad, just something some supposed fans put together and that she uploaded to her youtube account. So it hasn't shown on TV.
Posted by IowaIan on June 30, 2010 at 10:03 AM

But yea its not really satire. Or if it is satire, the candidate didn't think so.

Who is angry and irate? Laughter indicates neither.

@7: Masturbation is 100% legal and doesn't hurt a single person - but that doesn't mean it has a place in a campaign ad. "Vote for Bob - he likes to jerk off!"

It's not about prejudice against gun ownership and gun use - it is about what is or is not a valid argument in favor of electing someone for office. "She likes to shoot things up!" is not a reason to elect someone.

@6 Right, basically all we know is that she hates taxes and loves guns.

Of course check out who she is running against:

http://www.politics1.com/az.htm

In District 3 there are at least 9 other Republicans, including a major, several ex state representatives, a tea bagger and Dan Quayle's son.

No wonder! She has to stand out somehow.

I wonder who is the craziest of the bunch and if the one Democrat in the race would have a chance if the craziest somehow got the nomination.

@7 we can talk when a gay candidate's advertisement main feature is him making out with a dude.

@7: it's perfectly legal, but it is not a reason to vote for a politician. unless you respond to dog whistles.

when i see that, i see pandering to gun worshippers in place of content. and that's what 'enrages' me, though in fact i'm pretty used to this shit by now, so i'm mildly amused as much as 'enraged'.

@7

Hey dipshit!

First of all, gays cannot get married in most parts of this country. In fact most gays do not have the right to even civil unions or domestic partnership.

It would be one thing to show her shooting a gun, it's quite another to have 40 seconds of her shooting a gun and that being the majority of the ad's message.

Reverse Polarity 21
@7, I'm laughing, not enraged. Nor am I advocating for any sort of law that makes her activity illegal.

Almost the entirety of her visibility in this ad shows her shooting no less than 4 different weapons (note that all we see is her firing the weapons. We have no idea if she can hit the broad side of a barn). I just find that bizarre. That is her major qualification for running for office?

#15 I doubt she is hitting the target. The guns are dancing all over the place. I would be scared to be in the same field she is shooting in.

#7 Nobody got angry or irate. We are just laughing at her.... just like we laugh at you.

@7 The right has no prejudices and shibboleths? Really?
Also, not one person in th comments sounds enraged. They all sound vastly amused.
BTW I am pretty far left yet I own a gun I inherited from my Dad, and I used to hunt, but I believe we need some gun control. So I guess I am not 100% NRA approved.

I would like it better if she were standing in a clock tower instead of an open field. Shows more of that "can-do" attitude I look for in a political candidate.

@24 Of course the right has prejudices and shibboleths - like gay marriage, which I mentioned ... in my comment.

Hey if everyone's just amused, then awesome. I know there are plenty of people who get scared/freaked out/angry about people owning machine guns, for example, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised they don't read Dan, who's one of the smartest commentators on the web.

Also, @17, about gay marriage not being available everywhere - well, neither are guns.

@23 That's called recoil. The first handgun (the semi-automatic) looks like a pretty large-caliber one, judging from the recoil - maybe a .357 or a .40.

You can't really tell how well she's shooting. Her stance and grip look okay to me.

@7 In addition to what everyone else said I'd like to point out that the taxes that she fought (the only salient point of the ad) were a 1 cent sales tax increase that would keep the state from completely going bankrupt. 1 fucking cent. Even Jan Brewer supported it.

@7 and if it makes you feel better here's an arguably worse ad done by a liberal candidate for congress in Alaska from 2008 that we can all be amused by.

Let's see... From her appearance in the ad, all we can tell is a) she can afford a lot of ammo (and this stupid ad), and b) she doesn't fall over backwards when she pulls the trigger. (Notice the muzzles jumping all over the place, though.)

Notice how they don't show you any scoring on her targets, if she even has targets. The voiceover might say "she's always right on target," but there's zero chance of that with her technique.

I'd like to see her opponent run a similarly vapid ad, except showing bullseyes, taunting Pamela's random spraying of bullets, and conflating good marksmanship with good (liberal) government policy.

@23 - you are right and I noticed that too!!

@28 - You watch the aim of the barrel and when she brings it back down - it is not aiming at what it was before - ergo she is shooting all over the place!! This is especially visible at 0:19 thru 0:22!! Take a look and see!

Ah, focusing on single issues. Nevermind, environmental issues, civil rights or the economy... she LIKES GUNS AND JEEZUS! That's good enough for some it seems like.

And it goes for liberals too. Just because some asshole is pro-pot and loves minorities doesn't mean they're a good candidate either.

COMTE 42
@38:

Absolutely. By the fourth or fifth round her aim is pulled increasingly upward off the target line until she's pretty much just shooting into the air.

From the looks of it she was trying to empty the clip as fast as she could, presumably, so they wouldn't have to edit down the take, with little regard for where the bullets are actually going.

Very sloppy marksmanship, if you ask me...

I'd give her an 7 on the fuckability scale. -1 for not stating her campaign goals in her own voice, -1 for replacing real content with gun porn, -1 for sounding like a barely pubertal girl and -3 for not being Gabrielle Union (the perfect woman, le sigh), but I have to give her +3 for being so obviously emotionally repressed. My lecher senses tell me that any man with even a modicum of mature foreplay skills would light a fire within her that would turn Arizona into an even bigger wasteland than it's current state. I'd feel guilty about reducing her to the fantasy happy-fun-bed level, but her "babygirl" voice and substitution of intimated violence for personal strength (IOW, allowing other people to talk for her instead of speaking for herself in her own *damned* commercial*) make her a poor man's Megyn Kelly in my book, and it's impossible for me to take people like that too seriously.

@42 This, this, a thousand times this. Center mass, squeeze the trigger. Why, if a Mexican was moving at her quickly, you know, to rape her (they can't stop themselves) she would probably have to bring the baby to term to keep from going to hell.
