Did You Know that Gallagher Is a Paranoid, Delusional, Right-Wing Religious Nutjob?

Posted by on Wed, Jun 30, 2010 at 11:35 AM

Neither did Lindy West. Until she went to his show at the Admiral Theater in Bremerton last week:

At last, after two hours of his tedious, hacky, right-wing manifesto, Gallagher gets to the part his (willing) hostages have been waiting for. It's time to smash some shit. There are the watermelons, there is some cottage cheese ("It's got the curds that blow up, just like on the news!"), there is sauerkraut and syrup and honey. Then Gallagher gets a tin pie plate. He opens a giant can of fruit cocktail and pours it in. He opens a can of some Asian vegetable—water chestnuts, maybe—and pours that in, too. "This is the China people and queers!!!" he screams and takes his sledgehammer to the thing with a fury that is no fun at all. Wet chunks of China people and queers fly everywhere. The hateful, bitter old man laughs.

I cannot believe Bill Hicks is dead and this motherfucker is still touring.

Read the whole sad thing here.

I saw him at the Puyallup fair a few years ago. He spent most of the show telling jokes about Mexicans and shooting lettuce out of a wood chipper.

I'm only a little surpirsed, as I was sure Gallagher was gay when I was younger. You can only stay in the closet so long before you become twisted. Had he come out and stayed proud, he'd be as happy as Bruce Vilanch is today.

A lot of comedians are conservative or libertarian. It's not all Margaret Cho and Joan Rivers out there. Look at the average stand-up show audience: frats, straight couples on dates, seniors at casinos and etc.

Intimating violence against people is a class act. If people want to pay for the diatribe of a fool, let them. I never found him the least bit talented or entertaining.

But what about Metallagher?

Why is so much "comedy" today just mean hurtful crap?

Are you suggesting, Will, that Gallagher is actually "comedy"?

This would be the best story ever if it ended with Gallagher getting beaten within an inch of his life by an irate gay Chinese man after his set...

@11 I was also waiting for somebody to get so offended that they beat Gallagher within an inch of his life. That would be funny.

The AV Club did an interview with him a few months ago, which was one of the more entertaining reads I've had in while. The man is borderline insane.

@13 - thanks for the link. After reading that interview and Lindy's article, I think you can remove the "borderline" from your post. That guy is a stark raving lunatic.

Here's a report on his late 90s attempt to "try" to be a Mexican comedian.

Which Gallagher was it? There are two of them. The original Leo Gallagher and then his brother Ron who when Leo took time off picked up the mantle touring with the act and billing himself as Gallagher, Too. My knowledge gets sketchy here but I think when Leo wanted to come back and do his act and asked Ron to stop Ron denied the request and went rogue on Leo apparently creating much acrimony between brothers.
