And For the Defense

Posted by on Fri, Jun 11, 2010 at 3:53 PM

CNN:

A jailed Italian mobster claims he can prove American student Amanda Knox, her former boyfriend and a drifter are innocent of murdering Knox's British roommate because he knows who the real killer is—his brother. Luciano Aviello, 41, made the statement during a videotaped interview with Knox's lawyers. He said he had tried to write the Italian court several times to say that Knox and the others were innocent, but no one ever contacted him, defense and prosecution officials said.

Italian prosecutors say that they can't "investigate in the course of a trial every claim that comes up," but investigating this guy's claims should be pretty simple: he claims he hid the murder weapon—which has never been found—in his house.

"We can't investigate every claim that comes up" -- doesn't that tell you something about Italian justice? The prosecutor didn't give a shit who did it; he'd already got his suspect and his conviction lined up. Note that he -- the prosecutor -- is a convicted felon himself, and a serial case-fucker-upper.

Why didn't this bozo contact the defense? I'm sure they could have investigated, and put him on the stand as well.

How long will it take to check if the gun is actually there? Until they actually find something, this is just another unsubstantiated claim. It means nothing until they find something to validate it.

As Mudede pointed out to me when I e-mailed him about this earlier, this is now the third criminal who has come out in her "defense." This is probably as bogus as the others. But, as Dan and others have said, it would seem this would be a pretty simple thing to check out.

Let's see:

1. No DNA in quantity as there would be if she was there.
2. Only trace DNA in the commonly-shared kitchen and bathroom as you would expect from ANY OCCUPANT of a shared apartment who lived there.
3. Fame-seeking prosecutors.

Calm down Will. There's still a process that has to take place first.

Maybe we could arrange a prisoner swap by sending them Will in Seattle and bringing Amanda home to live with Charles Mudede in his dungeon.

The murder weapon is a knife. If the mobster has a gun, it wasn't used in this particular crime.

@7/8, where have I been? I've been paying attention to more important thing. I know very little about the case because it's just not important to my life.

Anyone who thinks the Italian justice system works like it does here REALLY needs to read The Monster of Florence. The same prosecutor who handled the Kercher murder also jailed a long-time journalist as a serial killer based on "evidence" from a crazy woman who was crazy. It's insane over there. Don't ever visit, don't ever get in trouble. Stay away.

And how can the prosecutor even still be handling Knox's case when he got a 16-month prison sentence for "abuse of office"? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/wo…

I just needed to chime in with another "OF COURSE YOU INVESTIGATE EVERY CLAIM -- IT'S AN EFFING MURDER CASE, YOU DOLTS!!"

I lived in Italy for 4 years, and yes, their justice system is fucked. Also, their prisons are NOT nice places. I hope her parents keep at it until she comes home.

(Maybe another crazy person could come forward to accuse the prosecutor of some heinous crime? ... just sayin'.)

More worth reading are the pieces by steve moore: http://www.injusticeinperugia.org/FBI7.h…

It's so clear she is innocent, but Mobster's story is as crazy as Mignini's. Should be investigated, of course, but it's not going to pan out.
