100% of the reviews for this place are the minimum score available on the stranger's own website. 4 readers scored this place 1/5 and if I could give it a 0/5 I would. I am not going to lie I go there sometimes to troll for guidettes but god damn that place is hard to be around. Shitty drinks and food combined with terrible service does not make sense in a city like Seattle that is so full of awesome places to go.

Why was this place chosen as SLOG Happy?

That baby hippo may be a future killer. Hippos cause more human deaths in Africa that any other animal. They are the pitbulls of the wild kingdom.

Man, at first I was all excited to actually be able to go to my first Slog Happy, then I read the first comment and the reviews of the place and feel sadness. However, one question still remains in my mind: is the place 18+ or 21+?

I think the hippo may be a gay pitbull in disquise.

@3 Their phone number is 206-770-3228 if you want to call and find out. Looks like they open at 4pm, but someone might be around earlier prepping or what-have-you.

Is this place as terrible as the reviews?

The place isn't that bad. Every since Amber and Twist came, this place is dead on weeknights and the patrons are mostly friends of the staff. Friday and Saturday nights have the "meat market/bridge crowds" where Monday thru Thursday are locals in their late 20's and 30's hanging with friends while rock n' roll like the Rolling Stones is playing. Shit, they had on the Insane Clown Posse Juggalo documentary on the other night as a joke and it was hilarious. Del Rey is a has-been to the annoying meat-market crowd that roam 1st ave so give the place a 2nd chance. I did.

@6 Calling someone to verify information? What is this, the 20th century?
But srsly that's not a bad idea.

@8 You are right that the place is much better on week days than week ends but the place is in general where you go to find Ed Hardy in Belltown. I just don't understand the point of going there when you could literally go a block or two away and find a place much better.

Most bars on First (and Second) Ave in Belltown are not places I'd like to go on Friday and Saturday nights. But today is Thursday, and Slog Happy starts at 6 pm. It won't be the same tonight is it is on weekends.

And all but one of those reviews on our website are two years old, and management has since changed. I can't promise it'll be the best Slog Happy ever, but their happy hour has been recommended by a number of friends, so come and check it out. If it's awful, we'll at least be together.

"If it's awful, we'll at least be together" is a nice way to sum up the whole Slog experience, if you think about it.

At least everyone will still have each other to commiserate in person should the food, drinks, service, and mood push for the other end of the 11 knob.

Do people really ever go to these SLOG Happy socials, or is it just a watering hole event for staff?

@13, people do go to the Slog Happy events, and it varies from month to month on how many Stranger staff show up. Though if Paul is there then it usually means that he has books for the taking (for the small 'fee' of a review of the book you take once you've read it).

Megan's right: New owner, new menu, new everything. I used to hate the place, but I'm there at least twice a week now. The food is amazingly good, and the custom drinks are great. Ask for a Babykiller or a Hurricane Katrina.

The staff were friendly, so were the other (non-Slog) patrons I talked to, $3 craft beers at happy hour, incredible (and filling) $5 truffle mac and cheese. I would go back.
