Seattle Seahawks Rookie Caught Stealing Top Pot Doughnuts

Usually my embarrassing habit of reading TMZ every afternoon turns out to be nothing but a waste of time... UNTIL TODAY! Because today TMZ reported that Golden Tate, a Seattle Seahawk rookie, was caught trespassing in Bellevue's Top Pot doughnut shop at 3 am Saturday morning, all because the dude just really wanted a maple bar.

The shop was closed up for the night, but apparently Tate, who lives in the same building, didn't let that stop him and his buddy from getting their sugar fix. After being caught, Tate got a warning from police and promised not to do it again.

At today's practice the Seahawk player addressed the media about the incident and apologized for his actions, blaming the tasty maple bars for his bad decision. "When I got [to Seattle] it was one of the first things I had. They're irresistible," he said. Adding, "If you ever want some maple bars, that's the place to go."

I wholeheartedly agree. As long as you go when IT'S OPEN.

See, if this was an NHL player, I'd totally understand.

Nothing beats a maple bar.

Wow! Way to pander to the victim (TopPot)... Clearly he received wise advice from a lawyer. His statement is as corny and juvenile as the last lines in a Scooby Doo episode...

They're irresistible,.. If you ever want some maple bars, that's the place to go!"

another example of the Jock getting away with something that anyone else would have been arrested for.

The quote from Pete Carroll is the best:

"I'm not disappointed in a guy being in a doughnut shop when they've got maple bars like Top Pot has," Carroll said. "However, under the circumstances I think they were closed or they were trying to close or something like that. So that's definitely one. We talked about it, and he's most remorseful about it and all that. I do understand the allure of the maple bars."

@3: I know that Top Pot has a relationship with the Sounders, so they probably have some contact with the Seahawks as well...

At least it was a maple bar and not a malt liquor. I don't think that'd have gone over as well. "They're irresistable... "

@6 Pretty sure that Sounders and Seahawks have same marketing team. This looks like a stunt to get free advertising for Top Pot!

Why was the door unlocked and ajar at 3 AM? Yeah, he was dumb (stoned?) to assume that they're open that early, but still, it could've been worse than a 22 year old stoner wandering in for a maple bar, you know?

Top Pot and the Seahawks just signed a three year marketing deal. You've got to assume that has something to do with them declining to press charges. None of the parties involved actually seem upset about this in any way. It's pretty good advertising for Top Pot, in a way.

you know why this continues to piss me off? the whole ad is premised on a totally polyanna view of race and crime.

we're asked to believe that the SPD found a 25 year-old black male who broke into a business at 3am in downtown seattle and let him go with a warning.

really? ok, i'm breaking into cupcake royale tomorrow night.

The good TopPot folks (some of the best espresso in town) have got to rename their maplebars, at least for a short while, to: "GoldenTaters"

Richter, Times reports the Top Pot store was on the ground floor of the Bellevue building where Tate lives. Their one store there is at the base of the super-fancy Washington Square building. This is far, far from downtown Seattle.

The baker had left the common area door open when he went to piss or something and Tate more or less wandered in through his fancy building's secured ground floor.

Make more sense?

Bellevue is "Suburban Seattle" in this article - weird! I totally know where that building is, a few blocks from BelleSquare, and like, a block behind my tattoo artist's shop! (Yes, I get inked in Bellevue....I just can't break up with this guy, he's too good.)

@23: Uh, are you suggesting Bellevue isn't a suburb of Seattle?

fucking seattle.... I HATE THAT NYC DOESNT HAVE MAPLE BARS.

Also I got kicked out of Top Pot for throwing a doughnut at the doughnut lady because she was being a cow and didnt want to check in the back for maple bars (I SWEAR TO GOD I COULD SEE THEM ON A TRAY BACK THERE), She gave me all this attitude so I threw it (I missed, I suck). I FLEW TO SEATTLE FOR FUCKING DOUGHNUTS LADY!

Man maybe Top Pot just creates a need for illegal activity.
