On Extending Unemployment Benefits, Rossi Takes a Walk

Posted by on Mon, Jun 7, 2010 at 11:36 AM

Democrats have been e-mailing around a clip of this video—in which Republican Senate candidate Dino Rossi walks out on KIRO's Essex Porter after being asked whether he supports extending unemployment insurance—and now we've done you the favor of uploading the clip to YouTube.

You can watch the full 18-minute video here. Though Rossi's spokesperson has since clarified that he supports extending unemployment benefits—if other parts of the federal budget are cut in order to pay from the extensions—it's clear from this clip that during the May 28 interview Rossi didn't know enough about the current unemployment legislation to answer Porter's question (even though extending unemployment benefits has been a huge flash-point in Congress for months).

Lol, What? The Stranger railing against Rossi is getting pretty old. This stuff is starting to not make sense. I oppose the guy too, I think hes an asshole and bad for Washington but come on.

He was asked about a piece of legislation that is being voted on while he was running low on time. He made the right choice of not speculating and then he had to go. What is so weird about not answering that question?

Thanks Dino, for just handing a free commercial to Murray.

ROSSI: Against working people.

@2 I agree that he is against working people but I just watched the clip several more times. Watch the first few seconds a couple times and you will see it too. He is being told that they are running out of time. When he tells the interviewer that he has to go the interviewer wants to get in one final questions and Rossi declines.

I do think that he has no fucking clue about unemployment benefits extensions only because he has no fucking clue in general but this is a silly way to get at him.

@3 no sillier than the evil little signs that were placed in eastern Washington last time that a vote for Dino was a vote against Seattle. Turnabout is fair play, and the sides of good should use every arrow in the quiver until he's out of political lives to spend.

So, Rossi isn't astute enough to recognize when he's being thrown the political equivalent of a flaming bag of dog poo on his door stop, and yet decides to stomp it out anyway? I'll be even Didier would have been able to spot the pushback potential in that question, even if he didn't have time to answer it, and would have found a more graceful way to exit. Besides, if he'd taken half the time he spent explaining why he didn't have time to answer, he would actually have been able to give at least a "yay or nay" to the question as it was posed.

At this rate, he should just walk around with a big ole "L" taped to his forehead...

Told you he hates the people of Washington State.

The reason he wants this job is to have an excuse to fly around the world and move to DC.

He didn't walk out, the time on the interview had clearly run out and he had to exit. You wouldn't want him to be rude and be late for his next interview, now would you?

Where'd all these Rossi supporters sprout up from on SLOG? Dino's peeps must be putting the word out to try to quash this typical evasion of any question that would force him to show his true colors.

Maybe after three losses, he'll get a clue and stop wasting his supporters' money.

How does answering "yes" or "no" take longer than saying "Whoops! We're out of time." ?

Answer: It doesn't.
