The Savage Love iPhone App

Posted by on Wed, Jun 2, 2010 at 2:53 PM

savageloveapp.jpg
For reasons known to Steve Jobs and Steve Jobs alone...

Apple has gone and approved the "Savage Love" iPhone app—and approved it in record time. The "Savage Love" app has all of my columns from the past five thousand years, searchable by keyword and by categories like "adult babies," "amputees," "worst advice ever," and that's not all. Each afternoon the app blasts the SL Question of the Day out to your phone so you'll never have to read Slog ever again! It also has my podcasts, videos, new and easy ways for the sexually clueless and/or desperate to send me questions, and a very, very special way to reach out and touch me. It's a $1.99 at the iTunes store. Right now—with barely a mention anyplace—the "Savage Love" app is at the number #2 spot in the "Lifestyle" category. Which no one finds more appalling than I do.

Unfortunately the Tech-Savvy At-Risk Youth couldn't figure out how to make an Android or Boysenberry version.

Check it out.

It worked once, crashed, and never worked again.

I'll uninstall and reinstall but if that doesn't solve the issue, you owe me a Starbucks Skinny Dolce Latte next time I'm in Seattle Savage!

A cracked/pirated version of this app is already available on Installous. Google "installous" for details.

@8 No, they got rid of the unlimited data plan. There are now 200mb and 2gb plans.

@11 Um, give it a few days. The outcry over the words "fisting" and "facial" will get it removed eventually, I'm sure.

Did you know that first world nations have 1000 Gbps access for 100 percent of their citizens?

As in, not the USA.

We're third world, but too stupid to know it.

And we pay 100 times as much for the same drugs ...

Sorry Dan, but using an iphone requires using AT&T. If you do a little checking, you'll find that AT&T contributes a lot of money to politicians who don't like homos like you and me.

So, no iphone.

I get a fatal error after the loading screen every time I try to launch it. It looks entertaining, but the loading screen isn't worth 1.99$

It kept crashing till I backed up my phone, then it worked fine. I'll confess that the "Ohhh...DAN!" feature made me laugh so hard that I started crying. Good show!

@23 my iPod backs up automatically each time I sync it, is there another back up option I'm unaware of?

It was suggested to me that I sync my phone after it kept crashing when I tried to open the app. Others found syncing after purchase helpful too, according to comments on Savage's Facebook page. But, it sounds like you already have synced it?. Sorry I am not more helpful.

Have you gone on Savage's FB page? Perhaps there are other suggestions beyond syncing it.

I discovered that you can back it up by right clicking on the ipod name and selecting that option, but it didn't solve the problem for me. For reference, the message I'm encountering says

FATAL ERROR OCCURRED

The following error occurred and the application cannot continue.

Error:Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain
Code=1560 UserInfo =0x43818f0
"Operation could not be completed.
(Cocoa error 1560.)"

And then gives me a button to Quit.

Any help would be appreciated!

It probably doesn't matter all that much anyway, because if AT&T is successful in doing away with the unlimited data plan, all these fun little apps are going to eat so much bandwidth that they'll become prohibitively expensive to use. Talk about killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

(And before y'all freak out, all of us who already have unlimited data plans are "grandfathered" in . . . for now. Sadly, I suspect that will change if they don't have any problems with the new rate structure.)

Aha, based on one comment from the facebook page, I turned off the ipod completely by holding the power and home buttons until I could shut it off, and then rebooted it. Seems to be working fine for now!

Fenrox 31
Dan, What do you say to @19?

You could have had an Android and or BB app, but you wanted an iphone one, and now you are supporting all these things. Although, can we get a breakdown of exactly how much better google is than AT&T?

Hey everybody.. Tech Savvy (somewhat), At-Risk (certainly), Youth (not so much anymore) here. Sorry about the crashing bug some of you are running into! This one never came up in testing (or in Apple's testing, apparently), but we have a fix on the way! Should be submitted to Apple very soon.

In the meantime, as others have mentioned, it appears that a full restart and/or backup and sync of your phone may solve the problem.

Thanks for your patience!
