Assuming that the city council passes a food-policy proposal, some big changes are in store for backyard farming in June, My Wallingford reports. Right now, Seattle residents are limited to having a paltry three backyard chickens at a time; that number could go up to eight. Eight chickens! In your backyard! Or in each of your neighbors' backyards! EIGHT! The ban on roosters may also be lifted, and backyard farmers will be allowed to sell produce grown on-site. In less cocky sustainability news, a crew of goats from Rent-A-Ruminant on Vashon Island came to St. John’s School Monday to start cleaning up the weeds and blackberry bushes that have gotten out of control, reports Phinnywood blog. The goats will be hard at lunch for three to four days. Speaking of disappearing vegetation, North Beacon’s so-called “larcenous landscaper” appears to be back for another season of plant thievery. Beacon Hill blog reports that a witness describes him as “an older Asian gentleman, dressed in sport coat and slacks, smoking a cigarette,” and saw him return to a silver Toyota—with the irises he’d just taken from someone’s yard. This alleged thief appears to be the same one who was caught on video last May.

Armed with a staple gun, a man allegedly smashed a window with a brick in an attempted burglary at a Fremont business on Saturday, reports Fremont Universe. No one was hurt and the easel he was attempting to steal was recovered outside. Rainier Valley Post and SeattleCrime report on a more serious armed crime: Police reports were released Friday about a drive-by incident that happened late last month. According to the police report, two 18-year-old high school students were in the parking lot of a minimart on Rainier Avenue South and South Cloverdale when a blue and yellow Oldsmobile Cutlass, with a picture of Bart Simpson on the side, pulled up. The driver—allegedly part of the "Down Wit It Crew" gang—insulted the slain brother of one of the teens, fired several rounds, and drove off. No one was injured and the Bart-mobile remains at large. And in other news involving violent young men, there was an apparent fight club going on in the baseball field parking lot next to Whitman Middle School in Crown Hill, MyBallard reports. According to a witness, there was a "fifty person fight club going on... It was mostly two or three people fighting at a time with the rest of the mass just yelling and pushing." The participants were described by the witness as mostly 19- to 21-year-old males who scattered and ran when police arrived.

While the city council is proposing an increase in the number of chickens allowed, they are not considering lifting the ban on roosters.

sometimes i think about pruning other people's trees and shrubs but it's a lot of work to be sneaky about.

@4: it's mainly when the offending plant is interfering with the man-height space i require for walking under it on the sidewalk.

@6: I have a pair of Fiskars pruners that I carry in the side pouch of my backpack specifically for trimming low-hanging tree branches when I'm walking. They're awesome. Screw being sneaky, just pull them out, clip, walk away.
