We have two books on Vietnam, a discussion about "a Market Culture Beyond Greed and Fear," a book about cooking in an urban setting, and much more tonight.

There are two Stranger-sponsored literary events tonight. The Silent Reading Party, hosted by my boss, Christopher Frizzelle, will be taking place at the Sorrento. You just show up and read books. That's it! These are surprisingly fun and sexy times.

Central Cinema hosts an event that was put together by Stranger staff writer Cienna Madrid tonight. It's called "You Want a Story? I'll Show You a Story!" (I am not crazy about the name, but whatever.) It's a collection of personal essays and fiction with visual accompaniment. Madrid will be reading about Idaho, The Hugo House's Brian McGuigan will be reading about growing up as a fat kid, and Josh Zinn will read about traveling across country on a Greyhound bus. There will be short films in between each story, as well. It sounds like an interesting reading experiment, and I'm looking forward to it.

If you're more into poetry, Gjertrud Schnackenberg reads at Kane Hall tonight at the 47th Annual Theodore Roethke Memorial Poetry Reading. I have it on good authority that, while some of Schnackenberg's poetry is "boring," many of her poems are completely "kick-ass." If you just want a good old-fashioned book reading, Alta Ifland reads at Elliott Bay Book Company tonight. I haven't read any of it, but Elegy for a Fabulous World is a great title for a collection of short stories.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
