Profile in Hypocrisy: Clint Didier

Posted by on Tue, May 18, 2010 at 8:38 AM

Jim Brunner over at the Seattle Times has a hilarious story today about how Clint Didier, who's trying to ride his Tea Party cred and anti-big-government screeds into Patty Murray's Senate seat, has been personally raking in the government aid.

Didier has repeatedly called the federal government "a predator." He vows to oppose the "Marxist utopia" he says Democrats want to create — "where everyone is taken care of from womb to tomb."

But Didier himself has cashed in on one big government aid program. He has received nearly $273,000 in federal farm subsidies since 1995.

Speaking from somewhere deep in his eastern Washington alfalfa field (which, the article points out, is kept green by water from the federal government's expensive irrigation projects in the area), Didier tried to tell Brunner that he has to accept farm subsidies in order to keep up with his neighbors. Which, you know, fine. Another way of looking at it is that the federal government has helped lift the fortunes of both Didier and his neighbors with all these farm subsidies and huge public works projects in eastern Washington. But if Didier wants to see it all as an evil plot to force him to keep up with the subsidy-sucking Joneses, fine. Everyone has their weird rationalizations.

What Didier can't do, though, is line his pockets with money from big government handouts and rail against big government handouts and expect to not be called a huge, big-government-handout slurping hypocrite.

Doesn't matter. The Tea Baggers will still vote for him, because, deep down they recognize (even if they'd never consciously admit it) that they're ALL sucking at the big ole' "gubbamint teat" in one fashion or another.

Or did you think being called out on their hypocrisy would really force them to admit being hypocrites?

The great thing about hypocrisy is that it is ok if I do it.

Well, it is not like a black person was getting those checks, so it isn't a big deal!

I love this quote from Dirt Diddler, complaining about labor laws: "I think that's what's missing in our country — we've taken away the right to work our kids."

He has a point.

The Government fixes and manages the price and gives a leg up to his neighbors.

He could not compete if he didn't take the same.

His point then has more validity because if elected he would (presumably) take $273,000 away from himself by slashing agricultural subsidies.

So as long as it's hundreds of thousands for him and his friends it's o.k. But poor people can eat rocks. Sounds like a right winger to me.

I kind of sympathize with the logic though and have expressed a form of it myself.

For myself, I would prefer to live be in a small apartment, to buy things which are cheap, but not cheezey. The $300 Trek 7000 versus the $5000 "road bike". The KIA Spectra versus the Mercedes.

However, I realize that in this world, my freedoms could be easily taken away because there are so many money giants who can buy up and own the land, or drive up the costs for the rest of us, that I cannot sit still in my Shangri-La.

Added to this are those who automatically receive Government subsidies. Case in point, I work hard everyday to pay for my apartment. But Section 8's down the street get the same apartment for less.

This ends up being the plight of the middle class...or Tea Partier.

He doesn't have the wealth of the top end to insulate him from the cost of living, and at the same time, Government is elevating his neighbor to compete with him.

So the "working well off" gets squeezed -- hence, Tea Party.

@6 Yes, I'm sure slashing those farm subsidies is on his must-do list.

Everytime I see a picture of this proto-nazi I just have that gut feeling he was a fucking asshole in high school. And it's not just because he's wearing a football uniform...he just has a certian assholyness about him.

Sigh. Liberals just can't message, can they?

"Hypocrite" is one of those grade A intellectual graduate school type words. It assumes the hearer has knowledge of the real truth, the target's false position, and how the inconsistency is ... some kind of intellectual dishonesty.

Here are better words:

Wants a handout.

Is sticking his hand in YOUR pocket.

and the ever popular (-- because it embodies deep moral meaning -- he WANTS SOMETHING FOR NOTHING.

The next step in messaging is to tie this deeply evil person to the general tribe he is an example of and their whole program:

"this is how the GOP operates. They want you the taxpayer to support their filthy greedy rip off schemes, whether it's GWB letting someone else go to Vietnam, or the special deals for Wall Street they want today, or the tax cuts Bushies paid off his donors with in order to make you pay more to give them their profits and special benefits."

"This is just how they are -- greedy, arrogant and their plan isn't to promote your freedom, it's to enslave you by robbing you blind."

See, it's a full bore description of the world with good and evil moral characters not just some little intellectual jab that would sting oh! so much in the faculty lounge at Harvard Law School.

The ultra messaging would be to turn it on him to explain big govt. leads to a bigger market and more opportunity for all as shown in all of E Washington....

That is all.

I am from the Tri, and he went to highschool with my biology teacher, Mr. Anderson. (Jack, I think)

Anyway, he used to tell us stories about how awesome he was in back in the day. They used to torment kids, get drunk and run through walls. This teacher was a megajock, and he idolized Diddier. Never met the guy, but I hated him from those stories. At least Mr. Anderson wasn't a pedo-fuck like the other biology teacher. I would rather have a jock teacher than one who gets off on 16 year old girls.

Let's also not ignore that he played for the NFL in stadiums that were in all likelihood subsidized through local taxes.

Yes, Supreme Ruler, he's forced to grow alfalfa that is subsidized, rather than, say, what a lot of his neighbors grow (grapes), which are not.

What do we do when huge pluralities, if not the majority, of our nation's citizens are too stupid to experience cognitive dissonance or achieve class consciousness?

Cato the Younger Younger @10, assholyness. Definitely the word of the day.

All I can add is this:
Clint Didier, welfare queen

Love to see that on a bumpersticker.

The whole deal with these growers is that their justification for suckling from the federal teat is that they are "contributing" something to the country, rather than those subhuman illegals and "urban" types who are just "wasting" everyone's good hard-earned dollars with frivolities like health care and housing subsidies.

Most of you need to get your facts straight, first off Didier is not an idiot and that just shows your ignorance. He grew up in a hard working family and has contributed more than most to our eastern Washington community. When the floods on the west side happened him and his brothers donated hay to the farmers who lost theirs. He has molded many high school football players and given freely of his time long before he had ambitions to run for Senate. The stories of his drinking, tormenting kids and running through walls are totally false. I have personally known Clint and his family for over 40 years and he is a kind and wonderful person. He has helped more people than anyone else who has posted here and has always been for the underdog. He would make a great Senator because he is for the people not for the big businesses and government. I feel you are missing the point, we have became a nation of overly politcal correctness. We need to get back to basics and work together to become a stronger nation. A vote for Clint is a vote for the people of this great state.

You really don't know how the world works? If, the worst thing Clint Didier is done is accept legal Farm subsididy to the tune of about $273,000.00 over a 14 year peroid, Gee that's a whole $19,500/year. I will take him over Patty Murray who has sold all our backsides into the "kill pen" with Health Reform, while collecting 10million. When are you sophmore morons going to figure out, your being corraled into servitude? The most frightening sentence in any language is ," I from the govenment. I'm here to help you."
Try expanding your knowledge base a little.
Look both ways and over your shoulder before the current administration locks you in the sorting chute.

Gee! you want your health care free or subsidizes, you want your housing free or subsidizes, what other 'freebies" do you feel entitled too?
Try expanding your knowledge base. If, the worst thing Clint Didier has done is accept about $273,000.00 over a 14 year period=$19,500.00/year in legal Farm subsidies and wants to change the system to allow Farmer to farm without government medelling he has my vote, over Patty Murray who has sold all our backsides into the "kill pen" with Healthcare Reform while collecting 10 million dollars for her votes. She has adamantly supported corraling the masses into the sorting chutes for this Administration. I suggest you look both ways and over your shoulders, because the most frightening sentence in any language is ,"I am from the government and I am here to help you."

all the usual liberal parasite puke rhetoric pointing there shameless fingers and screaming like in "THE INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS"
I know Clint, he is the real deal and none of you sniveling little idiots have any Idea what so ever what you are talking about,
Next you will attack his Mother for cashing her social security checks. You see we have heard your act before. You people (and I use the term "people" with some trepidation) should be scared, your about to have to compete in the real world.
You might want to catch the next boat to Europe.

Well, it's going to be hard for me not to vote for Clint. I mean anybody who can play football in the NFL is only a few steps short of the late J.C. in my estimation. However, really? NFL player qualifies one to be a U.S. Senator? Probably not although Jack Kemp (The QB for Buffalo) did a good job, but was also to the right of Attila the Hun. I don't know who I am most "afraid" of: The Socialists or the Fascists? On the other hand, he, Clint, has Sarah Palin as his hero? Yikes!
Knowledge and IQ points are big with me. Go Patty!

If you listen to this man's goofy talking points, you can tell he is pretty dim.

He's like the male version of Sarah Palin.
