Today in Insanity

Slog Tipper John Galt writes:

Grant, just ran across your skateboarder video from yesterday. If you're looking for another example of how hard it is to amuse some people, this link is my favorite.

The intro is interesting, and worth watching, but the you're-shitting-me footage starts at 1:27.

I will admit to not knowing that these adult-sized flying squirrel suits even existed, and that this is considerably more mind-blowing than watching someone longboard down a curvy hill in California. (Not that the latter is anything to sneeze at.) So, here is another reminder that your job is boring:

Asparagus, Grant still wasn't allowed on the internet two years ago when he was ten. Don't be mean!

@1 - Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I almost watched something that I hadn't seen before but was saved in the nick of time by your astute post!

OMG! It's been on the internet before? I'm so embarrassed. You guys know everything!

@6, hold your head high, sir. If you hadn't seen it, it's a safe bet your large target demographic of Slog-reading tweens hadn't either. You've done them a signal service, so pay no attention to us crabby old ladies of the web.

@1:

You win the Interwebs for today: Because it's a well-known fact nobody ever watches anything on it more than once.

You mean, I just shit my pants for nothing? I could've shitted my pants two years ago instead?

Well, I do think we had this on Slog some time ago....but, really, it's one of the prettiest things I've ever seen, makes my heart sing with joy, so thanks, _again_!

When I saw the line of people @ 1:15, I found myself wondering "How many of these guys are going to meet horrible, gruesome deaths before 40?"

Because I'd bet it's quite high.

I too hope I live to 40 having risked nothing, done nothing exciting, and maybe even die safely in bed with no tattoos

How is this a "job"?
These are obviously trust fund kids.

I love Norway and Norwegians, and especially the Trollstigen/Trolltindene. Even the bus ride is exhilarating.

@15 not quite. Most of these guys are professional skiers, etc. who make their money by making movies and getting sponsored. And yes, @13, one of them did die, though to be fair, he almost made it to 40: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_McCon… .

Notice it didn't show them landing. And I wondered why they didn't make the suits even more aerodynamic?

There's at least one whole book about this, which I read after seeing the vid the first time, and about the same time Popular Science (or Popular Mechanics) had a cover story about doing something similar from Low-Earth-Orbit. Fascinating.
