YES. (A Thing Is Occurring at the Sculpture Park.)

After 3 1/2 years of near-total deadness at the Olympic Sculpture Park, I am inordinately overjoyed (is that redundant? I AM SO INORDINATELY OVERJOYED THAT I DON'T CARE!) at what is going to be happening at the park this summer.

A collage Jenny Heishman put together in preparation for her temporary OSP work this summer.

The museum has just released its summer schedule, which includes FIVE ephemeral sculptures by contemporary artists (Jenny Heishman, Whiting Tennis, Andrew Dadson, Mungo Thomson, and Jessica Jackson Hutchins—EACH AND EVERY ONE VERY AWESOME) opening June 12, a new indoor installation at the pavilion by Trenton Doyle Hancock opening August 18 (the current Geoff McFetridge installation has been up for approximately 14 years), and a Farmers Market on the Z path each and every Thursday from July 15 to September 9.

Now THAT is more of what I'm talking about.

The whole schedule is in the PDF on the jump (free yoga every Saturday!). See. You. There.

Will they ever let us touch the fucking sculptures? Does anyone really believe that the pieces of metal are so fragile as to wilt under fingertips and the interactive prodding of children? If they are, why are they placed within a few hundred yards of a body of saltwater? I'm originally from Chicago and we have a long history of outdoor sculpture that people love, hug, touch, schmear, kiss, etc., and it all seems to be doing fine. Maybe this is a sign of a change for them?

Hi Jen! Sometimes things just take time..TIME, T I M E but when the things are wonderful, as all of the OSP events and programs portend to be, we forget how long they took. I share your enthusiasm in these renewal projects to OSP.

And even the Farmer's Market will be artful. One booth/space will be handled by Pottery Northwest with weekly exhibitions and presentations by the resident artists there. We are excited by that too!

Just touch it. It's what Serra would want. And take pictures of yourself doing it and then send them to me.
