Posted by on Wed, May 5, 2010 at 10:32 AM

...is now an elected official. He's qualified, ya know, 'cause he wrote a book!

At least he finally has a job. Maybe now he'll be able to pay his taxes.

I thought that guy was just made up by the McCain campaign. Sometimes I can't fathom that these Republican caricatures are actual people.

He's just a precinct committee person (definitely not a paid position). All it means is he gets to vote at the county GOP meetings (with 400 other people, apparently). 9 times out of 10 county parties can't get enough people to run in a given precinct so anybody who puts their name on the ballot wins.

An angry, unemployed guy who's not named Joe and is not a plumber becomes a hero named "Joe the Plumber" to tea-baggers everywhere...

Kinda sums up the entire confused and fucked up teabagger movement altogether.

Had to read the story on this one. I had assumed it was a governmental position, *PHEW*.

@4:

Yeah, PCO was what I got from that as well.

Hell, even I'VE been one of those! This is like, the lowest level elected position one can hold in a party organization, so it's not really like he's made a huge leap into the political arena or anything.

Wake me when get gets elected to a municipal sewer board or some-such...

He's qualified because he's a citizen.

Are only Democrats and liberals entitled to participate in the political process?

I understand being qualified for positions like President or (here in ND, where we vote for) judges, but lower level offices - even up to the House of Representatives and the Senate - don't require any qualifications besides being a citizen and over a certain age.

Good for Joe. I'd never vote for that moron in a million years, but that's the beauty of our system: we elect assholes to break stuff, then get to complain about it for the next two to four years.
