Better Late Than Never? Pope Benedict XVI met this morning with a group of sex-abuse victims and promised them “with tears in his eyes” that the Catholic Church would seek justice for pedophile priests and implement "effective measures" to protect young people. He also expressed his "shame and sorrow.” This marks the first time Benedict has met with abuse victims.

Ash Sunday: The bodies of President Lech Kaczynski and his wife arrived in Krakow this morning for burial among Polish kings, but the volcanic ash cloud hanging over Europe prevented dozens of world leaders, including President Obama, from attending.

Oh No! The volcanic cloud of ash hovering over Europe is “disrupting celebs” as well!

Hey Hey Ho Ho Nazi Scum Has Got to Go: A white supremacist group rallied against illegal immigration in downtown Los Angeles yesterday as hundreds of counter-protesters shouted them down. The white supremacists reportedly shouted "Sieg Heil" before each of their speakers took the podium and taunted counter-protesters with racial, anti-Semitic and misogynistic epithets.

You Can Sleep Soundly Tonight: The Library of Congress is archiving your tweets. Every public message in the history of Twitter will be included in the library's holdings. Listen to host Liane Hansen speak with Andy Carvin, senior strategist for NPR's Social Media Desk, about the acquisition here.

R.I.P B.I.G: Notorious B.I.G.'s long-running wrongful death suit was dismissed Friday. The late rapper was shot dead in Los Angeles at the age of 24, 13 years ago.

The Next Big Thing: Washington’s medical pot business is poised for huge growth.

Remembering When the Youth Were Noble and Brave: The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee— the civil rights group that led the famous lunch counter demonstrations in Greensboro, N.C— has its 50th reunion this weekend. One of the goals of the reunion is to get young people involved in tackling social, political and economic issues. Listen to the SNCC's inspiring story here.

A Reason to Hope: A DNA-based appeal filed yesterday is giving former University of Washington student and convicted murderer Amanda Knox renewed hope at fighting her 26-year sentence.

Guess Who’s (Probably Not) Coming to Dinner? Politician Mike Huckabee, an outspoken opponent of adoption by gays—“Children are not puppies”— has been invited to dinner by the Hearty Boys, a gay cooking duo, to meet their adopted son. Read their complete letter to Huckabee here.

Here’s to Telling Mike Huckabee to Suck it: A Michigan judge has opened the door in a case that could grant gay people the right to custody of biological children of their former same-sex partners. If the decision stands up on appeal, it would be the first time gays, lesbians and unmarried heterosexuals in Michigan would have legal standing to obtain joint custody.

Local Matricide: Federal Way man who was “worried about his mother's declining health and about their financial situation” was charged Friday with shooting and killing his 88-year-old mother and then turning the gun on himself. He is in stable condition at Harborview and could potentially receive 26 to 31 years in prison if convicted of first-degree murder.

This mornings theme would seem to be about standing up for your rights and the changes that can be made when you do.

According to this article, this is not the 1st time he's met with abuse victims: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/19/world/…

"It was Benedict’s fourth such meeting. He also met with abuse victims in visits to the United States and Australia in 2008, and in Rome last year."

We all agree that it should be his 100,000th meeting, not his 4th. We all agree that it's little comfort for abuse victimes who have been ignored for decades. But still - facts are facts, and you didn't check them.

I think it's instructive that the only people who were arrested at the Nazi rally in LA were counter-protesters. Yeah, the Nazis might be hateful kooks, but it sure seems like they were an improvement over the other idiots there.

"The white supremacists eventually gave up and pushed their car away so they could jump-start it out of range of the projectiles."

For some reason that just tickled me.
