You Do Not Have a Book Deal...

Posted by on Tue, Apr 13, 2010 at 4:09 PM

...but this person does.

The phrase "Natural Tumblr-to-Book Ecosystem" makes me want to technicolor vomit all over my desk.

Hipster pets... ick. It hurts my spine.

Paul, do you have any books under your belt? If so let us know. I'd been interested in reading it/them.

I don't like the internet-meme-to-book process either Paul, but Hipster Puppies totally deserves its' own book deal. Fucking adorable and easy to look at!

perhaps you should start one: thingspaulhates.tumblr.com is up for grabs (as is thingspaullikes.tumblr.com)

"Ecosystem?" GAH! These people should be imprisoned - if not executed - for Language Abuse.

They'll share a cell with the people who abuse the word "community." Any ideas who will be the bitch?

The language is as atrocious as any newly made-up industry-speak—actually, probably more so—but it's not like books like this haven't been getting published forever... or at least since the 70's.

Perhaps we simply need a new term for the thing produced when a blog is transcribed to a paper format; something other than "book," which while technically accurate does not quite capture the real nature of the phenomenon.

In the future, it might help to call these "blooks" or, less succinctly, "crass attempts to bail out publishing through novelty gift sales to mush-headed, internet-addicted twats."

As long as there are baby-boomers & older folks and stupid young people, putting shit that you can get for free on the internet in books will remain lucrative.

I mean, look at the one comment at that linked page-sounds like something your mom would write.

@7: My mom is a much better writer than that.

Are these even good book deals? Or are these folks getting advanced a few thousand bucks to export their Tumbr to InDesign and hit print?
