Reading Tonight: Ahoy, Japan's Black Market!

We have a discussion about Communication Power today, along with a reading of a short story titled "Beauty and Virtue," and several other events.

Sig Hansen reads at Trinity Lutheran Church today. North by Northwestern is a book by Hansen, who is a sea captain who is now a television star. He is on some television program called Deadliest Catch, which sounds like a nautical-themed dating game show. Exciting!

But the most interesting lecture of the day is this afternoon in the University District. Seiji Lippi will give a lecture about the history of post-atomic-bomb Japan as told by the black market. Histories of crime are often more indicative of what's going on in a society than the polite above-board histories. This sounds fascinating.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.

I'm also way too hip to have any idea what Deadliest Catch is. I don't even own a TV!

We should hang out. Did I mention I don't own a TV?

I used to eat lunch with Sig every day in 8th grade but I didn't know that he was a big TV star until a few months ago. Yay Sig! I remember him as being quite a tease but not mean.

I don't have a TV either, but I download every episode of Deadliest Catch as soon as they're available.

There's a joke in here somewhere about people catching crabs...
