Life Imitates Art, "Top Chef" Edition

Posted by on Wed, Apr 7, 2010 at 4:33 PM

Does the Chef in the Hat at Rover's (from Bethany's "Top Chef" post) know about this famous painting by Watteau (ca. 1718-19)?

I like to think that he does.

The one on the left looks more like a Cuban drug lord.

So even in the early 1700s chefs dressed in whites?

Not to be a total dick, but the hat is different, the top is different, the pants are different in style and color, and the shoes are different.

Other than that, yeah, he obviously copied the look.

Oh, and the Watteau is a harlequin or jester, not a chef.
