Seen yesterday on 12th and Pine...

I can't help but feel that this is a prank related to or directed at a certain article by David Schmader. She is the real Ugly Betty.

Volvo. Seattle U. Pitbull.

The owners are a lesbian couple, I'm sure. They've probably also given fliers to every Linda Derschang establishment and the Wildrose.

I pity those hapless individuals that cross path with that 'gentle' creature, if that dog is lost most likely it's hungry too.

Pits, along with pure-bred purse dogs, are stolen pretty regularly. The pits are stolen to be made into fighters, the purse dogs are stolen to be re-sold. I hope Betty gets found safe before someone attempts to make a fighter out of her.

@2: Loveschild, stick to obsessively hating members of Homo sapiens. I'm pretty sure there's a sexual component to your uncontrollable urge to say mean things about people, and bestiality is just not okay; this dog cannot give consent for you to tell her about how much Jesus hates her.

I dont understand the sport that is pit-bull bashing on the SLOG. I mean damn, even dan savage's sock puppet Loveschild even hates pit-bulls. Someone needs to explain this, without bashing an ENTIRE breed of dogs.

Oh come on, the dog's not hungry - it can chew off kids' faces any time it wants something to eat.

all pit bulls are mean.

all black folks like fried chicken and watermelon.

stereotypes are fun!

@7 Stereotyping an entire group of humans on the basis that they have a slight propensity towards some trait is stupid. Eliminating a breed of dogs because is has a propensity towards harming humans is just plain good sense.

The ad is real. The owner is a good friend. Betty was found. And yes, I will say Betty is very gentle and sweet.

except that it's not that simple. they weren't bred to "harm humans", and with proper training they can be kept under control.

someone had their beloved dog stolen out of their car, and charles wants to make fun of them and say that it's some prank based on some stupid ass column by stupid fucking credulous hack schmader? fuck him.

@9: Thank god. Judging from the poster she's well-loved, and I was about to cry real tears when I saw 3's comment.

Something tells me Betty's people aren't the kind of folks who encourage viciousness in their dog or who let her menace others. Again, I'm so glad she's home and safe.

Wow... I never imagined this response when i put up that flyer. I guess some people can't even look at a sincere plea for help without laughing in its face, Regardless, there are people who did actually look at it, use their heads and their memories and help connect a scared little dog with her owner who was in a hell of a lot of pain. Thanks especially to the security staff at Seattle Central, The Gang down at The Interbay Animal Shelter, and a certain Pet Psychic at, yes, The Wild Rose!

@ 9 and 12, I am very glad to hear Betty was found! Poor thing, did she manage to squeeze out of the window or did someone tamper with the car? Once in the early 90's our old lab got out at Food Giant when we had the window cracked open- his big paws pushed down the beat VW window, he jumped out and actually followed us inside the store! We always leashed his harness to the car seat after that. I also am surprised at the negative posts about pit bulls on this site. I enjoy slog, but I love my two rescued pits much more and find the ignorance towards pit bulls by both staff and so many sloggers astounding.

@14: Yeah, Dan's weird that way, and sadly so are a lot of SLOGgers, such as 5280. My family has a rescued pit/beagle mix and he's just as sweet as anything, if a bit anxious and needy. Trust me, the pitbullphobia is as weird to me as it is to you.

I actually know this sweet dog.
She was originally saved from a bad situation. And now she is the the most gentle dog in the world. Which shows that like people, Its stupid to judge dogs by their race or background.
That said, I thought the original article about pit bulls was hilarious... and something I have had to consider before but not from a pitbull but another dog.. (a boxer).

Many pitbull attacks, such as the recent one in Brooklyn that was slogged here, involve "the most gentle dog in the world" suddenly and for no reason snapping and attacking someone, often a small child. This "sweetest dog" argument is total bullshit. EVERY pitbull, no matter how it is raised, no matter how gentle it is, is a potential killer.

I really think the desire to own a pitbull is related to the desire of some people to own dangerous snakes, monkeys, or other exotic animals. People LOVE their cute little critters, but don't seem to be interested in accepting the consequences of their actions, whether that be torturing slow lorises from the illegal pet trade or tearing the faces off of three-year-olds.

#18, every human being is a potential killer, too. Do you ever think maybe you post too often? I grant that sometimes you're very informative, but jesus, find another hobby, my friend.

alright HOLD UP people.
to those making rude comments about betty, pit bulls, the owners, and this ad being a joke
have some class. if a dog is missing obviously its hurting someone, and in this case, since i know the owners, i can fairly say that the experience has been more than a little upsetting so can it.
now, i understand that you trolls have no lives and that no one loves you but don't take it out here. Take it out on the videos of 9 year olds making hannah montana music videos or something if you really have to, since at least they have the same maturity level as you. Maybe even higher. Just pick on somebody your own size.

Anyhow on a sweeter note,
i'm super happy betty's been found! god i love her she's so adorable and sweet.

As a toddler, I grew up next door to a pit bull. She was a sweet thing and i've loved pit bulls ever since. Their probably the smartest breed of dog and very loyal. That doesn't mean that they aren't incredibly dangerous as a breed, and lethal. Look at the fucking statistics you assholes. I like pitbulls, that doesn't mean they aren't dangerous. See? It's called thinking like an adult. Just because I like something doesnt mean it's good. Everyone, especially pitbull advocates know that their lethal as a loaded gun. It doesnt mean their at fault (you fucking children) it means they aren't good domestic pets. Shut the fuck up.

"Many pitbull attacks involve "the most gentle dog in the world" suddenly and for no reason snapping and attacking someone, often a small child." EVERY pitbull, no matter how it is raised, no matter how gentle it is, is a potential killer."

Do you think the owner is going to say they chained the dog, fed it when they felt like it, never gave it attention, or let their children antagonize it? No, they're going to say "it was such a nice dog", they're not going to admit that they're at fault, they're going to make it sound like a freak accident so that no one can blame them. EVERY dog, no matter how it's raised, no matter how gentle it is, is a potential killer. There has been a case of even a pomeranian killing a baby: ALL dogs are capable of killing (I'm assuming you're saying this in reference to humans, if you mean all animals, many breeds were created with the express purpose of killing vermin or big game animals)

"I really think the desire to own a pitbull is related to the desire of some people to own dangerous snakes, monkeys, or other exotic animals."

A pit bull is not an exotic animal. It is a dog. No amount of selective breeding done over the past 200 hundred years is enough to separate it so far from other breeds that it would override the 15,000 years that dogs have been domesticated. The desire to own a pit bull varies from person to person, just like any person's desire to own any breed of dog is not the same. Some people want a pit bull because of it's negative public image, some people want a pit bull because they know someone with a pit bull and fell in love with the breed, or the dog at the shelter or rescue group that they fell in love with happens to be a pit bull, and they consider the individual dog's personality to be more important than what the media spoon feeds them about how the breed is a mythical beast that will rip your throat out at any second.

I Adopted our Molli Mae two years ago today. (not really two years ago today. I just thought it was a cute rime.) I was shocked at the amount of bullies in the pound and I had a little red nose pitt once who was a fantastic dog. We switched our plan of dog breed to a pit bull but my girl Donna had some concern about the bad press. so I did a little research and this is some of what I found in my searches
On average about 12 people die a year from dog attacks in the USA. To put it into perspective an average of about 50 people die from lightning strikes. I think as many as 5-7 people fall over the edge at the grand canyon every year.
Dog bites happen at a much higher rate, but on average 90% of dog bites happen to young boys between 12 and 15 who are known to the dog.
Of the people who die each year of dog attacks almost 100%every year are old people or children.
On the other hand check out the number of dogs abused, neglected, abandoned or killed by people!?
I don't know if those numbers exist but I saw 6-8 youtube video's last night of police officeres shooting family dogs .
Statistically you have a much greater chance to die of peanut allergies then die from a dog attack.
Cars kill several times more people then dogs of any breed and eliminating cars could possibly save us all, or at least our children from global warming.

But 100% of dumb asses can be found spewing mythologies created to drive advertising by some corporate entity with no requirement or interest in its social responsibility for context,. Dumb asses can often be found sitting on their fat American asses consuming salty snacks figuratively licking the ass of corporate America. Or as I like to call it the old white guy behind the curtain of government. or the conglomerate of fingers inside the sock puppet of government.
