Pitch Perfect

Posted by on Sun, Mar 28, 2010 at 5:06 PM

The pope really has a gift:

Pope Benedict, facing the worst crisis of his papacy as a sexual abuse scandal sweeps the Catholic church, declared today he would not be "intimidated" by "petty gossip", angering activists who say he has done too little to stamp out paedophilia.... Faith in God, he said, led "towards the courage of not allowing oneself to be intimidated by the petty gossip of dominant opinion".

Yes, all those children raped—so much petty gossip. And this pope is certainly not going to be intimidated by the "dominant opinion" where child rape is concerned.

Isn't that exactly what John Paul II did: blame the victims, their lawyers and the media?

It's not like the world's Catholics are gonna demand accountability.

They could have time and date-stamped photos of Ratzi himself engaged in "paedophilia," and Papa Nazi would just publish all of the full-size photos in the next issue of Priests' Weakly as his latest "fuck you."

And there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it 'cause he's all infallible and stuff.

Seems like just a matter of time before it comes out that the Pope is a child rapist too... why else would he side with them?

It is funny, in an ironic way, to think that there were to processions into Jerusalem on what the church calls "Palm Sunday". One procession involved Gov. Pilate and the armed forces and wealth of Rome, coming to assure peace over the Passover. The other, the Pope's Lord and Saviour, who came in a procession of peace and was followed by the poor, and ever growing, wandering peasant class. I've no idea what Pilate did after his arrival into Jerusalem, one can guess that he went to the palace at the Temple to go about government business. Now, the Pope's Lord and Savior went to the temple and took on the collusion of the High Priest and Scribes with Pilate's government. The Pope's Lord and Savior spoke about justice when he addressed his followers at the Gentile Courts. And, here we have the Pope in 2010, dressed in splendors to rival Pilate, saying he won't be intimidated by "petty gossip" and appears unwilling to address his own collusion with injustice and the rape of children. It is sad. I'm afraid I don't see Christ in the Vicar of Christ today.

[From the Guardian:] The Vatican daily, L'Osservatore Romano, has accused the media of a "clear and ignoble intent of trying to strike Benedict and his closest collaborators".
"Collaborators" is startlingly honest, and almost correct. "Conspirators" or "accomplices" would be better.

Kim, I'm glad to see you back. I hope you and your family are OK.

What makes you think that if a god, any god, existed, he/she/it would be a just god, or a "good" god, or even a _sane_ god???

If you have an a priori statement that "god exists," the next step would be in understanding that god's nature, not to assume it and predict it's behavior based on that assumption.

Carl Jung analyzed the god of the Old Testament, aka Yahweh, The Lord, etc, and determined by his words & actions that He was emotionally stunted, and displayed traits that are either found in very young children or psychopaths.

Which I think, says quite a lot. In Christianity, the relationship of Jesus to The Lord is like having a warm, loving & caring law firm representing a batshit crazy conglomerate ran by a psychopathic evil genius. Some will point out the very nice lawyer who is doing His best for you, but the shots are all called the Crazy upstairs. It's obvious to me which entity is the one Ratzinger deals w/ regularly.

Some of us of differing and slack faith do feel very sorry for all those poor Catholics, laity and clergy, who tried to do the right thing when it came across their desks and/or those who would have if it had, which is the vast majority of the Church incorporate, who have been so vilely betrayed by their leadership.

It's very clear that this pope stands in a state of disgrace that is irredeemable. The only right thing he can do now is resign. Putting right what he's allowed to go so wrong is beyond the capabilities of any living Saint.

It's actually funny that his Faith is so unshakeable that he cannot see that. Because that makes it plain that his Faith is not in the Highest and Eternal Lord of Hosts Who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, deeply curious about and in love with each individual life and Life as a whole, Whose eye is on the sparrow, but Who is terrible in His wrath.

@13 Why? That's easy: somewhere between 1700 to 1980-some odd years of tradition. That's a lot of Mass to pass that fast.

Hum, you know I haven't trolled a comments roll in a majorly off topic way in at least 20 minutes... here's my public service post for the year (I'll put it here where I'm sure tons of ppl will see it on a Sunday, lol).

Go to:www dot spokeo dot com

type in your name, and see it come up with your phone number and personal address (complete with picture!)...

It got a few details wrong with me (haven't lived there in 5 or 6 years, and I'm sure I'd know if I had kids), but it got my dad perfectly.

Then click on the privacy link on the bottom of the page if you'd like to remove your listing. You know, I like facebook stalking as much as the next lesbo, but this is, well, creepy.

I went to Catholic School grades K-12 from 64 through 77 and basically had no where near the experiences that are reported (I'm not disputing what you say, but it just wasn't my first hand experience).

There definitely was a lot of discipline, but it was doled out mostly by the nuns, at least in grade school. There were somewhat like 20 nuns in the convent and 3 priests in the rectory. The priests didn't teach in class, only did the masses. I was only an altar boy for about a week, and I was a lector for about 3 years.

In high school we were taught by the Marist Brothers, who are less than a priest but still ordained and celebate. It was an all boy high school and there was a lot of activity and extracurriculars and field trips. At no time did I hear about, experience or even imagine anything like I'm reading!

As a person growing up in NYC during the 60s and 70s and not being wealthy enough to afford secular private school, the public schools were seen as little more than dangerous drug-ridden and violent junior prisons. I was glad that there was a low cost alternative to give me a stellar education.

I'm just saying. There are other sides to life in churches and schools...and many, many, many children such as I benefited from the intelligence and self-serving orders who taught us.

Hey Kim -- I know we've never really interacted on here, but I've always loved your well-intentioned and intelligent comments. I just skimmed through some of your old comments, and from what I gather you're going through a tough time right now. Just wanted you to know that you're a loved member of the Slog community... and the comments just wouldn't be the same without you. Keep your chin up, we're always here if you need a distraction!

Good lord, these people are disgusting. But then, what do you expect of the Catholic Church; it's supported - or at least condoned - most of the most horrific atrocities perpetrated by mankind (the ones they didn't actively inflame). If Jesus were around today the poor guy would feel sick to death of them.

Hey #35 - It is common for mafias to do nice things for people who follow their rules and get along. It is the people they harm that makes them bad.
