Breakdown of the House Vote on Health Care

Posted by on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 7:45 PM

house_vote_to_concur.jpg

Here's the roll call of votes, with Republicans appearing in italics and Dems appearing in roman. More spectacular theater to come... and, again, here's that C-SPAN feed.

UPDATE: The NYT has produced a nifty map that breaks down which representatives voted for and against the bill. Needless to say, most of the West Coast districts went for the bill; so did Democratic strongholds near the border of Mexico.

Fucking Reichert.

Yeah, seriously. How is Reichert still in office.

Looks like Reichert is the only rep west of the Cascades between Canada and California to vote NAY.

What a guy.

He's in office because I voted for him. At least he uses his brain and has a little forethought about what is going on instead of relying on emotional BU**S**T like you morons. Now my wife loses her business AND we lose our house because of this stupidity and gross misuse of power on the part of the majority of the House.

I just wish there had been a few more intelligent representatives out there that would bother actually voting the way their constituents want...instead of just voting along party lines, their lobbyists and what is going to provide them with the most kickbacks.

The measure seems to have bipartisan opposition.

Gunner, when none of your doomsday scenarios take place, what then? Somehow I don't think a principled apology for your hysteria will be forthcoming.

BTW, it's spelled "bullshit." We're not children here.

@5,8: Dank. I was gonna try to rip him a rhetorical new one, but you've done a way better job than I could have, Matt (from Denver).

Many of our businesses will now be able to afford to provide their employees healthcare coverage because of this reform. Namely, the small business my friend started out of high school. Or the small business my uncle owns in Olathe, Kansas. Without being able to enter a larger pool, the cost was well out of reach for millions of American entrepreneurs.

It's hyperbole that someone is literally going to lose their house because of this bill. It's far more likely you'd lose your house because of the credit bubble created by deficit spending during the Bush Administration than this. So if anyone's relying on the emotional bullshit, I'm pretty sure it's you.

Oh yeah, and about that deficit: this bill reduces it. Health care is bankrupting the country, and we're now one step back from the brink.

because excessive spending means reduced deficit hurr hurr
wait 4 years, you'll look really silly for that comment

Looking at the Republican vote, this made me laugh. Thank you.

I watched in disbelief that 219 intelligent men and woman voted FOR the Health Care Package. The disservice they have given this country is shameful. No one should be made to participate in a Health Care Program that will offer coverages, deductibles, and service that aren't even defined. It has been claimed it will reduce our out of pocket expenses. I pay for health care and my out of pocket is $5 a visit. You tell me the program will be less. I'm sure my insurance will disappear with government run services. Long lines, prescriptions they approve, services they approve. What happens to the doctors that have spent their entire lives as doctors and now to be dictated by the government how those services are to be rendered - 4 years from now. What happens in the meantime. The government can't run medicare, how will they service a whole country with medical problems. The problem was with 15% of non covered people. It didn't require a government takeover to fix it...but that is what was approved. I'm very disappointed in the character of those individuals who voted for the program.

@6 the Speaker of the House rarely votes. As presiding officer of the House she typically does not participate in floor debates and she does not vote unless her vote would be decisive.

Re: map - funny how the no-vote areas also tend to be those with lots of fat aging insurance pools, i.e. the very places that are bleeding jobs in part because of the heavy burden of financing these fat aging insurance pools.

You people are missing the big picture. We have a President, Speaker, and Senate Majority Leader that truly hate this country. They want to change everything about America that makes us great. Back to the big picture, the Demorats know the only way they can hold majority after November is to pass their next bill. That would be comprehensive immigration reform, that's right, make 20 million illegals, legal in time for the November elections. They are selling us to the highest bidder. For all you idiots that voted for a Chicago politician and thought things were going to be different, well, they are. Socialism is hear, with the real agenda of Communism on the plate. All you need to know is who these politicians admire. Socialist and Communist.

@9 neat, I spent a large part of my childhood in Olathe, KS. Go Eagles!

This bill might allow me, in a few years, to start my own business and still get health insurance for myself and my dependents.

Let me understand this, where going to insure 30 million more people and it's not going to cost me, the working guy, a dime. Better yet, it's going to save me money. Anybody who has half a brain can figure that is B***S***. The CBO said that it would cut the deficit by 138 Billion, but it adds over a TRILLION to the deficit. So it looks like at the least it will add 862 Billion to the deficit. Remember that the CBO numbers are based only on the estimates provided by the Whitehouse. By the way, OBAMA (One Big Ass Mistake America) has in one year made any deficit by any previous President, look like chump change.

@16 Glenn Beck is a toxic liar. Stop quoting him. You also have no idea what socialism is, so please stop using the word in sentences. HRC is merely a set of laws that for-profit companies must abide by. There is nothing socialist about making a company provide services that people pay for. Try thinking about why you and Glenn Beck should be fighting so hard to protect the profits of insurance companies. Why is it so important to preserve the freedom of corporations to do harm to the American people? This bill will benefit you if you ever get sick. Why is your health less important to you than corporate profits? It's like your advocating for a burglar's right to rob your house.

Oh, and Medicare is extremely popular and effective.

Also, socialism built our nation's infrastructure, ended the Great Depression, and won WW2 for us. In a democracy, socialism can be the people using their tax dollars for their own benefit. It has nothing to do with limiting freedom, like say the Patriot Act does. Don't knock what you don't get.

@23 HRC is NOT just a set of laws that for-profit companies must abide by. It targets middle-class citizens that cannot afford health-care insurance and make too much money to qualify for medicare/medicaid. It fines individuals $650 a year for not having insurance. It forces citizens to purchase insurance from an "approved list". The "approved providers" clause reads worse than any HMO Hillary ever proposed. As for corporate profits, this bill does nothing to protect me as a citizen, and everything to protect the profits of Healthcare Insurance corporations, Medical Service Providers and Drug companies.

Here we go again! Republicans opposing health care. Republicans screaming about high taxation and debt. Where were they when Bush permitted banks, big business and the entire financial system to fall apart? Where were they as American jobs were being shipped abroad? Where were they when the people of this country were forced to purchase Pharmacy Insurance which enriched the drug industry? Where are they as the drug industry sells their products for less in Canada than they do in the USA? Where are they as we now look for jobs to protect our homes and families? They sit there in Congress just saying "no' fully covered with lucrative jobs and medical insurance paid for by taxpayers, many without jobs. Hooray for the health care bill! At least our health care will be covered! I was convinced that the giant Republican communication system via Fox News, the Wall Street Journal and other media sources owned by Mr. Murdock, a billionaire from Australia, would successfully destroy the bill with their constant lies and misrepresentations. Even now, there is a campaign underway with Republicans warning about higher taxes and getting our country "deeper in debt". Of course they would like to forget who caused this debt. They would also like us to confuse the fact that only those people earning over $250,000 per year will be paying more taxes to help cover this and other costs. Those folks earning over $250,000 are naturally concerned about this and what it might do to their lifestyle. And can you imagine how it will upset those CEOs who are departing with anywhere from one million to sixteen million dollars a year from businesses that are failing?
They'll be looking for jobs soon---maybe these are the guys the Republican Party will run for office this coming year! Beware!

Just finished reading your other article on the health care bill, namely where you articulate your thoughts about the language used and rejected, now I see this and it completes a picture for me that makes me a little sick inside! Thanks for posting. Squidstop review
