Today in Nerd Excitement

Oni Press has finally announced that the sixth and final volume of the Scott Pilgrim series, Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour, will be released on July 20th.

I first read the Scott Pilgrim series a couple of months ago—a few years back, someone described it to me as "a guy has to fight his new girlfriend's ex-boyfriends" and I was turned off by that pitch—but once I finally started reading it, I was completely charmed by its unabashed romanticism and its video-game magical realism. This is the most excited I've been for the ending of a comics series since Preacher bit the dust.

In other nerd news: Warner Bros. announced that they're going to release one superhero movie every year from 2011 on in order to fill the Harry Potter void. I can't wait for the Prez movie.

The Scott Pilgrim movie might actually not suck, surprisingly enough. Metric on the soundtrack + Edgar Wright directing + largely unknown cast + giant foam hammers - Michael Cera = could be pretty good.

From the look of what I've seen, stills from the Scott Pilgrim shoot, they've gone for glossy -- part of the charm of the comic is how low rent the guy's life is, you know that apartment he lives in smells funky and has that fakey wood panelling on the walls, and when he steps onto that wooden staircase to go out it moves around under his feet like it's going to pull out of the wall --
But if they made it like it should look, it'd look like a mumblecore film and that would turn the mass film consumer off.
I hope Warners takes a film option on 'Mazing Man or the Inferior Five.

For people who thought Kill Bill would have been amazing if it was just a bit more twee and had even less believable female characters.

YAY! I am really looking forward to the next book, but I will be so sad when it's over. Definitely one of my favorite comics in the last 10 years.
