Today in Good Muppet News

Forgetting Sarah Marshall's Jason Segal is officially developing a new Muppet movie. If you've seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you know that the climactic puppet show is the best thing about the movie.

In the film Segel will star as Gary, a somewhat naive and Muppet obsessed guy who leaves Smalltown, USA to head to Los Angeles and winds up helping the Muppets put on a show big enough to save their theaters which is at risk of being torn down by a ruthless oil man. James Bobin (FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS) is directing the film, which still will need to cast its human female lead.

I hope Segal manages to put together a Muppet movie that's entertaining for both adults and kids. We haven't had a good Muppet movie in a very long time.

i was just about to argue that Muppets from Space was pretty dang good, but then i realized it was released 11 years ago. i guess that qualifies as a very long time.

wasn't the "Muppets in danger from ruthless landlord" thing done at least twice, before? I remember watching a Christmas Muppet thing from a couple years back where they were in danger of losing their lease. The Muppet housing recession thing is a downer that's getting old.

Not in any feature film I can think of.

I will always maintain that Muppet Christmas Carol (with Michael Caine) is the best Christmas Carol ever. Because every other adaptation forgets that the book is hilarious, and nothing is funnier than watching Muppets harass a grumpy British man.

@1 Yeah, I was going to say "Hey, Muppet Treasure Island was AWESOME!", but then I remembered that it came out FOURTEEN years ago.

The best muppet movie was Muppet Treasure Island, actually.

You're all savages. The best Muppet movie was the original Muppet Movie, followed closely by Muppet Family Christmas, which co-starred Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock.

That being said, I'm excited for a Muppet movie developed by someone who is obviously just as butt-crazy in love with the Muppets as I am.
