Today in Brains and Computers

Posted by on Mon, Mar 8, 2010 at 4:27 PM

First, we have the brains controlling the computers. The world's first commercial brain-computer interface is here:

Intendix works using an EEG-sensitive cap that measures brain activity that is focused in a particular way. You simply watch a grid of letters that flashes on the screen, focusing on the letter you want to type. When the letter you want lights up, your brainwaves jump ever so slightly, allowing the EEG to determine what to type. Guger Technologies claims that the interface is simple enough that users can utilize it relatively well after just ten minutes of training.

Next, we have the the computers controlling the brains. Here's the most recent anti-Google video circulating on YouTube:

Finally! After all the Skynet comparisons, it's nice that we have a different sci-fi analogy for Google.

So Google is going to throw the Emperor into some huge chasm and then die?

Seriously, it's not like Darth Vader made the Galactic Empire. Darth Sidious was the mastermind. Though I suppose the point could be made that Vader really had good intentions in what he was doing. He wasn't after power for its own sake, he really wanted to make the galaxy safer for people like his lost mother and wife.

Does Google controlling our brain mean that every time we go shopping for milk we come back with 10,000 different brands, types and container sizes?
