Books Reading Today: Poets, Balloon Animals, and Cocaine

A bunch of readings today, including a wedding guide called The Offbeat Bride that Bust Magazine says "won't make you puke," a "conversation" about the future of SPL at Ballard Public Library, an author of thirty novels, and an open mic and "featured readings by a group of homeless women."

Nico Vassilakis, who was shortlisted for a Stranger Genius Award last year, reads as part of Pilot Books' Small Press Fest tonight. His most recent book is a humument created out of a Louis Lamour novel. It really looks interesting.

Elliott Bay Book Company hosts William L. Marcy tonight. The Politics of Cocaine is about how our foreign policy has inspired a thriving drug industry in South America.

And at the Rendezvous in Belltown, Nicole Hardy reads poetry as part of an evening called "What a Lovely Way to Burn. Hardy's poetry is fun and accessible. She will read, accompanied by "sultry torch songs" and balloon animals.
