Maybe He Was Escorting The Dude To The Border?

Posted by on Sat, Mar 6, 2010 at 1:12 PM

California state Senator Roy Ashburn—recently arrested for DUI after leaving a gay bar—wasn't just an anti-gay Republican with a perfect anti-gay voting record (and the host of anti-gay rallies), Ashburn was also anti-illegal-immigration, anti-amnesty, pro-English-as-California's-only language Republican. So you can probably guess who he left that bar with, huh?

just imagine what a fun road trip that would have been too... Tijuana being as far away from Sacramento as it is.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable Eddie Murphy excuse, in which the Senator claims he was just driving by, and decided to give the guy a lift home.

Maybe Christopher Cabaldon should have outed this guy to expose his hypocrisy.

Thanks for picking up on this, Dan.

The Kern County/Bakersfield area that spawned Ashburn's political career is a cesspool, not only of agricultural and oil-field pollution and ugliness, but of wealthy and powerful closeted older gay men who damaged and destroyed many lives with impunity even while their conservative D.A. (still in power but finally headed for retirement) was prosecuting dozens of "satanic child-abuse" cases in the 1980s (like the Wenatchee cases you are probably more familiar with). Only much later were convictions overturned (25 out of 26 currently), multi-million-dollar lawsuits against the county won, and shattered lives resumed as best they could.

Someone in a comments thread yesterday suggested googling "Lords of Bakersfield." Here are a few choice links, for those who have nothing more fun and life-affirming to do on a Saturday evening:

http://www.rgmistriel.com/default.htm

http://reason.com/archives/2009/12/21/ke…

http://truthinjustice.org/jagels.htm

http://www.co.kern.ca.us/da/management.a…

That last link for the Kern County DA's top-management page has an "In Memoriam" link at the bottom for an assistant DA named Tauzer. To read the page, you'd think he was a saint who suffered a heart attack or something. Instead, he was murdered by a parent who believed that Tauzer drove his young son to drugs and death, and felt he had no other recourse within the system as it exists.

With this trend, it should be pretty easy to guess what kinds of freaky shit all the anti-gay bigots are into just by keeping track of what they condemn the loudest.

What 'freaky shit'?

Patronizing a Gay bar?
A one night stand?
Nonmonogamy?
Sodomy?

AKA 'the Gay Lifestyle'?

Which of the values promoted at the "anti-gay rallies" Ashburn hosted differ from Obama's positions?

How is Ashburn's position on Gay Marriage any different from that of Elton John?

The Gay Big Tent seems to be a pup tent.

If you're going to quote me, dickbreath troll @12, quote without deletions. I said "...wealthy and powerful CLOSETED older gay men...". That's the root of the problem.

You're a pretty sick fuck. You may or may not be gay yourself, but you're clearly obsessed and butthurt; you're early, often, and bitter in comment threads way too obsessively to have a healthy relationship with either a man or a woman. I peg you as a financially comfortable individual, a lawyer, businessman, assistant archbishop, or something remarkably similar. You live in the shadows, where you should always remain.

I'm leaning toward a deeply warped religious figure(head). The use of the royal/schizophrenic "we," the bizarre singsong versification of its comments, the relative paucity of profanity, the compulsive memorization and regurgitation of "facts"... it all fits.

As I said in the last Ashburn thread:

let people like this fall on their own sword and let them bleed to death. Don't try to out them, as impaling oneself though one's own actions and misdeeds leaves only one person tarnished — not all the others who took it upon themselves to "smoke 'em out" like it's Basra in 2003.

"Smoking 'em out", incidentally, is soooo what makes the rest of the world look pathetically at Americans who subscribe to that school. Just sayin'.

I think the most troublesome thing about this is that the local newspaper thought not to print all the pertinent information. Freedom of the press is what has made America a super power. When the press lets you down, your in for trouble....I know what I'm talking about. I'm Canadian and the government funded press in my country is no substitute for the real thing!

It is a fun object lesson in hypocracy. But your post kind of implies that the guy he was picked up with was an illegal immigrant, or had sought or recieved amnesty, or couldn't speak English, whereas the article you link to just implies he was latino. Do you have additional info on the guy? Or has Ashburn made statements against perfectly legal, English-speaking U.S. citizens of hispanic heritage?

@30 David Wright...what difference does that make? Another weird situation in your country is that illegal aliens do alot of work for starvation wages. It was once estimated that they would have to close down Las Vegas if all illegal aliens were sent home. These are people, your economy is exploiting them by paying less than minimum wage and not providing any social benefits to them. They are a good deal for American business, but not a good deal in a human rights perspective. Before you chastise China you should do a little navel gazing. Give these people citizenship and the rights and wages they deserve, and clamp down on your border....it is only lax because it serves a need.

Bob, did you know that homosexuals are 59% of all new AIDS cases in the USA,
that homosexuals are 39X as likely as normal Americans to get AIDS,
that AIDS is easily preventable
and that it cost $565,000 to treat an AIDS patient?

Percentages always make for quick gut reations. Here's couple numbers for you. I went to the CDC's website. Here's some number for you. In 2006 (The most recent data) there were 36,828 people in the US with HIV and that 14,016 died from it. In a country of 380 MILLION people. Here's a percentage for you: 67% of all Americans are obese. 67% of 380 million. I let you do the math. Being overweight is preventable too.
