Speaking of Texas...

Posted by on Tue, Mar 2, 2010 at 1:52 PM

...last night on MSNBC Rachel Maddow did a short piece on Texas governor Rick Perry's "ABBA attack ad." Perry is running for reelection and he's being challenged in today's primary by Kay Bailey Hutchison, the Senator from Texas, and yesterday Perry released "Earmark Queen," a copyright-challenged attack ad set to the tune of ABBA's "Dancing Queen." Anyway, Maddow said was looking forward to Hutchison's response ad... which would be set to the tune of ABBA's "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)."

That was kinda funny... considering the rumors that dog Perry... and I'm wondering if it was intentional joke on Rachel's part, a jab at Perry's supposedly closeted homosexuality. Had to be, right?

I'd have a hard time believing that Rick Perry was anything less than a pedophile. People that creepily plastic and power-hungry are always, always, always seriously fucked up.

I guess it could swing the other way and he could be an infantilist. At least that's harmless. I don't think so, though. No other politician has ever reminded me of The Smiler from Transmetropolitan quite so much as Governor Goodhair. He's broken on the inside, I would confidently wager. Broken in a dangerous way.

Kay Bailey Hutchison is just the female version of Perry, though, so I take no sides in this contest. At least one of them will lose and presumably be disgraced. That's as much of a silver lining as I can see.

Ditto 1- NOBODY messes with ABBA. You don't even get to sing their songs with their words until permission is granted. And you DON'T change pronouns or any other jot or tittle.
Their songs have been safely locked in copyrighted protection to the max since they were written 35 years ago. I hope ABBA sues his ass to the next life.

What is it with Republicans that they feel they can use any copyrighted material any time for their nefarious purposes.
