Wall of Toothy Cat-Dogs

Posted by Dominic Holden on Mon, Mar 1, 2010 at 5:30 PM

The walls here in the Stranger offices are pretty dull. Maps of the city from the era before Google Maps, Savage has a "Support America — Fuck the Shit Out of Someone" poster," Paul has a "Paul Has Caught the Reading Bug" certificate (featuring a reading fly caught in a net), I have an "I'm a Fan of Mallahan" hand-held fan. But artistic the walls are not. But then there's this, which arrived out of nowhere over the weekend:

It's a wall-sized mural by Mark Vonrosenstiel in the office of Tracey Cataldo, who manages our regional accounts. It's rad.

If it's not Paul Blart, Mall Cop, I don't want to know about it.

My office is next door to some lawyers representing a national car insurance brand. One day, they were throwing out a bunch of car accident evidence posters--photos that had been used in court, giant foam-board pictures of wet pavement and laid-over motorcycles and suburban streets with clearly-marked speed limits.

We took them all and decorated our office with them. They're equally creepy and interesting, for the non-sequitur they become (why would you have such a big, well-shot wall photo of a traffic cone?) outside of their courtroom context.

I recommend this.

It looks almost like the murals in The World Ends With You (I'm nerding myself here).

It'd be nice to see more murals around, would brighten up the cities, especially with such overcast days

Came across this just walking by and did the best double-take. Thanks, Mark!

He's also done the stairwell for Graypants, who are above us (1506 11th Ave). You can walk by and peek in whenever, its nicely lit too.
And he recently had a show at Bluebird ice cream.
