Hang Fire Books just wrote about a large collection of Tijuana Bibles that came into their bookstore. For those who are unaware, Tijuana Bibles are crudely drawn (and shoddily reproduced) minicomics made in the 20s to the 60s showing popular cartoon characters, actors, and other public figures having raunchy sex.

They've also included a (NSFW) link to a Tijuana Bible they found called Dixie Art Lover. It's quite possibly the world's first postmodern Tijuana Bible. If you'd like to read more about them, I suggest this book, which has lots of samples of cartoon fuck-strips, including Popeye, Donald Duck, Blondie, and more.

If you would like to buy an authentic Tijuana Bible from back in the day, you can find Hang Fire's catalog here.)

Thanks Jake, just read the New York Times piece. So... even Republicans like Bloomberg support cleaning up port pollution but Seattle's port CEO is lobbying against this environmental legislation?

Tijuana Bibles (with foreword by Art Spiegelmann) was the one book we couldn't bring ourselves to donate for the local elementary school book sale.

These are cheaper than I expected, given their cult-collectible status. Most Tijuana bibles kinda suck, but reading one or two is good for a laugh.
