Meet Matthew Cooke, a Stranger reader who has vowed to do everything The Stranger suggests for the entire month of February. Look for his reports daily on Slog and Line Out. —Eds.
Yesterday was ridiculously gorgeous, so I cashed in a vacation day and spent a glorious afternoon ambling around Greenlake, taking the edge off my ghostly February-in-Seattle pallor. I was thus overflowing with good cheer and Vitamin D when I set off for the Rendezvous to see Moon Duo, toting along my friend and fellow music geek, Gwendolyn.
I’m a huge fan of drone-filled, Spacemen 3 rock, and Segal’s blurb mentioned the indisputably awesome Stereolab, so I was optimistic going in. It had been awhile since I’d been to the Jewel Box Theater; I’d forgotten how tiny that space is. Gwendolyn and I grabbed a table and watched the first band, Du Hexen Hase, as they filled the little room with ambient washes of guitar noise.
