A Note on the New Smoking Ban

Posted by on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 11:49 AM

The ban on smoking in parks? Well and good. But you people cannot have everything you want. You need to learn how to give and take. If you ban smoking, then un-ban drinking in parks. Most of us would be very happy with that swap. You keep the cigarettes; we keep the booze.

I don't agree with the ban, but as a non-smoker who drinks I would definitely take that trade.

Many cities legislate against public drunkenness, but not public drinking. We have the inverse. Weird.

Attention all drinkers who support the smoking ban and continued increase in taxes on cigarettes. Until the cost of your particular sin triples over the course of a few years and is banned from occurring in public, stfu. We would get a lot more tax dollars out of the drinkers than we will out of the smokers.

They should legalize cannabis in the parks. It would be a refreshing reversal to see the police approach to make sure what you're rolling is a joint, not a cig. Better yet, why not have the police work on the violence in the city? What a novel idea! At least when they're not perpetrating said violence, that is.

Does the ban include weed? I love smoking bowls in the park on a sunny day? What's this city coming to if we can't even do that any more.
