Re: Something I just learned about Senate Reconciliation

Posted by on Tue, Feb 16, 2010 at 12:11 PM

Christopher, you are not alone. It looks like a few democratic senators read Fox News, too:

Progressive senators are calling on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to use reconciliation to end the health care reform deadlock. In a letter co-signed by Sens. Mike Bennet (D-CO), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) today, the group calls on Reid to use reconciliation to pass health care reform with a public option attached.

The senators note that The Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Medicare Advantage, and the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA) were all enacted under reconciliation.

Does this mean dems are finally gearing up to do their jobs?

As long as November's gonna be a blood-bath anyway, they might as well go out with a bang.

sigh.

if they had the balls to do this they'd have the balls to change the 60 vote rule. and in that fight, on the 60 vote rule, we'd have the advantages of (a) changing it for everything, (b) upholding he constitution majority rule the power of voting etc. and (c) we woudn't be basically lying, which is what calling health care reform a "budget measure" would be. It would be a fucking lie. It's pretty poor tactics when jamming something through and creating change to do it based on a lie, you know, as opposed to doing it based on the constitution and majority rule 'n' stuff like that. Without, you know, lying 'n' stuff.

Btw this is just a few liberals, so no, don't be an idiot, and don't get your hopes up.

Maybe certain DNC committee people heard when I told them why I said No Action, No Donation when they phoned me for a donation - probably cause I told them FTF as well ...

Look, people want action, not excuses. The Constitution and Senate Rules say nothing about filibusters - it's all a myth by lazy lazy old old white men.

No it doesn't because Harry Reid is a fucking worthless Majority Leader and wouldn't want to do anything that might ruffle anyone's feathers.

@7 - he's out. So is that guy who ran for President. Incumbents aren't in favor in that neck of the woods.

I have a better proposal. How about we shoot all of the insurance company CEOs in the face? Then deny their claims.
