The Morning News

Posted by on Mon, Feb 15, 2010 at 8:55 AM

Microsoft Tax Break: Bill sponsored by State Rep. Ross Hunter would give Microsoft an estimated $100 million break on taxes. The bill has given rise to microsofttaxdodge.com and a debate over whether giving tax breaks to a gigantic employer—whose 40,000 staff boosts the state's economy—makes perfect sense. Hunter represents Medina, which is also where Bill Gates lives.

The Sweep in Afghanistan: Have you been following the story of 6,000 soldiers descending on the Taliban holdout of Marja? They’re going door to door looking for fighters who have enmeshed themselves with the city of 80,000. But not all is going well. Over the weekend, NATO-lead forces fired a rocket into a shelter, killing 12 civilians. A NATO general has apologized. As of this morning, many Taliban fled the city into Pakistan.

Buh-Bayh: Democrat Evan Bayh will retire, citing divisive politics in Congress. Speculation abounds that Republican take the Indiana seat, further whittling the Dems’ influence in the Senate.

Elephants on Tea Time: Republicans attempt to woo tea party activists before midterm elections.

Prosecutor on Politics: AG Eric Holder sharpens tongue for political messaging after a series of gaffes.

Stabbing on Capitol Hill: Early Sunday morning:

A third unknown suspect joined in the struggle and assisted the others in pinning the victim to the ground. During the struggle the victim felt several impacts to his mid/lower back and a dull pain. The suspects removed the victim’s wallet from his back pocket.

In Lighter Capitol Hill News: Cardboard-tube-wielding knights battle in the park.

Garbage Can Bombs in Laurelhurst: “The covered metal garbage can was totally destroyed by the explosion,” writes the SPD.

Free Texas: Republicans trying to out-conservative each other for primary nominations in Texas. “We will tell the E.P.A., ‘You have no authority here,’” says Debra Medina.

Do the “Mike Tyson”: To a bouncer:

Police responded at 10:45 p.m. to the nightclub in the 300 block of Union Street where the bitten bouncer explained that the woman had been harassing customers waiting in line outside the nightclub. When the bouncer asked her to knock it off, the woman put her arms around his neck and proceeded to chomp on his earlobe.

Even Though Gay Marriage Is Already Legal There: Dems in Iowa join with anti-gay Republicans to force vote on gay marriage. The thinking behind the movement: “Anyone who has read the Bible knows that while individual battles will continue, the ultimate outcome of the spiritual war was settled long ago by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”

Iowa, Kenya—Like Peas in a Pod: Gay witch hunts in Africa.

Re: MS - Generally speaking, the more profitable a company is and the more employees a company has, its tax rate should go down due to the fact that all its employees are paying taxes as well as spending into the local economy. It's time to start incentivizing success.

Dems betraying gay people in Iowa? Big surprise. Using the bible to take away people's rights? Who's next? Because if you really believe they will stop at gays you haven't paid attention in history class.

I predict that Hillary Clinton will launch a primary challenge to Barack Hussein Obama, and Bayh will be waiting in the wings to be her running mate once she wins the nomination.

And she will win, because there is no way that Barry Soetoro, our Marxist homosexual usurper can get elected dog catcher at this point, given his record free fall in the polls.

Nevertheless, no one will beat Sarah in the general, because she is on a path of destiny.

Bayh Bayh...
who would have thought?

A year ago we were
intoxicated by electoral success
and sitting on huge majorities in Congress
and full of Hope for Change-
now Democrats are retiring in droves,
NOTHING has been passed in Congress,
the War grinds on,
Guantanamo is open,
Federal policy on Gays is UNCHANGED....

Some of us tried to tell you
Obama was too inexperienced-
even Palin mocks our "hopey changey..."

Is State Rep. Ross Hunter aware that Microsoft has been shifting jobs from Washington to China in an effort to avoid paying higher wages? Microsoft doesn't deserve any fucking tax breaks until they start shifting those jobs back to Washington state. Their last round of layoffs was a smoke screen to shift even more jobs overseas.

Stop rewarding this bullshit behavior.

"Iowa, Kenya—Like Peas in a Pod"

Excuse me? Dominc dearest, let's think this one out, shall we?

I live in Seattle. My mom lives in a dreary little town called Council Bluffs, in the most backward part of the state of Iowa. So backward, it's practically Omaha.

Yet, I could walk into the Pottawatomie County Courthouse (Main and 5th, in downtown Council Bluffs) and get myself a gay marriage certificate. To marry a gay. Legally and officially. Today (if I were there, which I'm glad I'm not - they have like four feet of snow on the ground and it's cold as hell there)

Could I do that here in Seattle?

And it's only four Democrats, (although I'm surprised the one from Grinnell crossed over).

As far as the Laurelhurst bombing goes, you don't suppose the George Jackson Brigade (look it up, darlings) is reinventing itself, do you?

@2: "It's time to start incentivizing success."

Yeah, the company that has produced some of the greatest personal fortunes in the world for its founders as well as a host of lesser millionaires really needs to step it up in the incentive department. What possible reason could they have to stay in business if the residents of the bankrupt state they're based in don't hand them sacks of cash just for existing?
