Drunk Vancouver Is Hating on the Irish

One more reason to love the Irish:
VANCOUVER - Angry Vancouver residents have complained that Irish Olympic Games revellers are too noisy with police receiving a steady stream of calls from bleary-eyed locals.It's right about time to recall and relish a line from the film The Commitments: “The Irish are the niggers of Europe.”Locals say they can hardly sleep at night and fear even more noise from the Irish House hospitality tent once the 2010 Games officially get underway Friday.

What about the Polish? Or the Albanians? I'd say they've all had much worse history than the Irish.

That's just offensive. I don't mean to the Irish, who probably don't care. For one thing, the line from the movie is "The Irish are the blacks of Europe." For another, the line has nothing to do with the negative stereotypes about black people that Charles combines with the word "nigger" in his post.

A careful reading of the linked news story reveals that this is an article filed by a French newswire. Like THEY don't have an axe to grind.
Btw, I love the gratuitous inclusion of the picture of a one Justin Martin, nearby Vancouver resident, who has no apparent link to the story, looks the least bit perturbed by the noise, but who is so adorable I almost could stalk him.

The northern Irish certainly aren't the blacks of ireland as was posted above.
Before the Celtic Tiger they traditionally always had a few extra quid in their pockets from the British taxpayer than those in the Republic, even on the nationalist side.
No the northside Dubliners remain the 'blacks' of Ireland. How could they not speaking with that dodgy accent!
