Sometimes life gives you something to smile about. Just enjoy it as a diversion from your headache.

3 -- It's a sign, to which one has to add each individual letter by hand. Explain to me how that is a 'typo', moron?

I'm sure I'm being the mayor of Obvioustown, here, but if you're staying at Captain Cook make sure you have a drink at the Crow's Nest (or dinner, I guess, but a good drink + the view = excellence).

COMTE 14
The difference @3 being of course is that one would reasonably expect the residents of a city to be able to spell its name correctly.

@18: WIN.

In related news, today my dining hall had, at the deli station, "Portabella mushroom w/spinach and avocado mayo on shabbat."
I think they meant "ciabatta", but I didn't want to wait for a day and a half, so I ended up not getting the sandwich.

I love the Cook. Those hexagonal tiles make a terrific racket when you're wheeling your luggage around. Too bad you can't still smoke a cigar while watching the game on TV in the lobby of the men's "fitness" center downstairs. And do have that drink in the Crow's Nest. Avoid breakfast there, though. The Downtown Deli is better and Gwennie's is campier.

@11 From one dictionary source:"A typographical error (shortened as typo) is a mistake made during, originally, the manual type-setting (typography) of printed material,...."

Uh, does that make YOU the moron?

Snow City is the best breakfast in Anchorage.

Crow's Nest? Snotty, snotty, snotty! Try Simon and Seafort's. One block further and a great view of the inlet. The happy hour there is the best in Anchorage.

@24 - No, because from one dictionary source: "Hartiepie- (n) Some cunt more interested in semantics than the colloquial meaning of a word"

A typo is not equivalent to a spelling error. One can make teh typo while still knowing how to spell the word. The only difference is the amount of attention and detail they pay to their writing. Which is automatically a whole lot more when you're manually attaching letters to a board. That makes this a spelling error, which is a whole lot stupider than missing a letter while typing 60 wpm.

@27: So you called someone a moron because they used a word correctly according to its definition, but incorrect according to the all-important colloquial meaning. I think you're the moron here.
It's easy to make a typographical error even when writing slowly; even if you make an error in setting the letters, your brain is likely to parse it as the correct sentence because that is what you expect to see. Many writers read their work backwards to look for errors for this reason; their brain is unused to parsing the string in reverse and so will tend to read the letters as they are. Just because it's on a sign doesn't make it a typing error; it might just have been put out there without being checked.

And people who think that the colloquial meaning of a word is more important than the actual definition are the reason that people who speak the Queen's English look down on us Yanks.

Christampa 29
The colloquial definition is the actual definition now, because it's been absorbed into the vernacular. People who think dictionary definitions should be the ultimate interpretation of language full stop is what causes people to smugly point out that reiterate means the same thing that iterate does.

It's not a highbrow vs. lowbrow thing. It's just a wrong interpretation, based on a dubious, unspecified source. This was not a typo.
